WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 26, 2024

Lottie Woad

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. A struggle this morning but you battled through so you must be proud of the effort.

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, definitely. It was a lot more stressful than I probably would have liked. Made a few mistakes. But hit some good shots towards the end that closed it out nicely.

Q. We were talking it's the curse of the top qualifier, was that in the back of your head at all?

LOTTIE WOAD: Not really. I have heard that phrase before but I knew I was playing well. I didn't play quite as well today but yeah, there was definitely some pressure there. I just kind of got through it in the end.

Q. The fact that you dug deep will stand you in good stead to keep things going, as well.

LOTTIE WOAD: Definitely. Got some time this afternoon to work on a few things, and the wind is going to get up, which is going to be nice.

Q. Was there a turning point out there for you today?

LOTTIE WOAD: Probably the par 3 12th, or 13th, whatever number it is, it was a tricky back pin I hit to two feet to get back to all-square and then I birdied the next to get to 1-up. Probably that stretch.

I made a really good halve on 16 to stay all-square with two to play. I was in the thick stuff and managed to get on the green. I 2-putted. I had to take a penalty drop out of the bunker.

Q. And you won 17 with a par?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, I won 17 with a par and then 18 I hit close.

Q. What did you hit off the tee?

LOTTIE WOAD: I hit 4-wood. It's what I hit every day and then I had 8-iron in from there. It was 157. I was out of the rough. I just kind of land it at the front of the green and hopefully it runs up and stays on the green.

Q. Course today, a bit firmer?

LOTTIE WOAD: It's probably pretty similar. I don't think it's getting too firm. It was playing pretty nice today with no wind. So definitely played a little different.

Q. Have you got a strategy for playing this place or do you just look at each hole as it comes?

LOTTIE WOAD: It's very wind dependent because some holes you might hit one club one day and it will be the complete opposite wind. I didn't really change anything from yesterday because it was flat calm yesterday. I was planning on hitting a few more drivers but I didn't see the point when I was hitting fairways with the putts I was hitting. You've got to avoid the bunkers. The rough's fine. So I didn't really see the point of hitting anymore or changing it, really.

Q. The par 3 15th, what do you make of that hole?

LOTTIE WOAD: That's a tough hole. I went left. So I was not going to miss. Made bogey. That is a very good par 3, especially if it's a tight match, it could definitely change the match.

Q. What was the club there?

LOTTIE WOAD: I hit 7 and pulled it left.

Q. Coming in this week, world No. 1, top stroke-play qualifier, do you feel any extra appreciate?

LOTTIE WOAD: I mean, there probably is a little bit more pressure but even if I didn't win the stroke-play or be world No. 1, I'd still be thinking the same way, still be trying to win it.

Q. Will other event will you play?

LOTTIE WOAD: I've got the Evian and The Open is my final one.

Q. You've had worse years?

LOTTIE WOAD: Yeah, it's been pretty good.

Q. And you are you're going into which year at Florida State?

LOTTIE WOAD: My junior year.

Q. What are you studying?

LOTTIE WOAD: Sports management.
