WOMEN’S AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 24, 2024

Farah O'Keefe

Hunstanton, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Firstly, well-played today. You must be very pleased to get off to such a good start.

FARAH O'KEEFE: Yeah, I mean, I'm really fortunate to have such a great caddie. James, I guess, has played a bunch of golf out here and caddied out here pretty regularly.

So I didn't need to pull out my book one time today or yesterday, really, during the practise round. He just knows the course inside and out, and you know, that's a huge advantage out here. It's definitely links golf, and you've got to know where to hit the ball and where to miss the ball, especially.

Q. In wind and these conditions, do you feel you got the slightly better of it this morning, or was it fairly constant?

FARAH O'KEEFE: Absolutely. Well, when we teed off on No. 1, it was still. There was no wind. And so it was just -- I totally got the right side of the draw in that respect. I'm sure tomorrow, you know -- hopefully shoot a big score tomorrow, just because of the wind. I mean, that's why I'm watching right now, just to see how it plays, and it's significant. There's a big difference.

With the wind picking up, some of the par 4s are playing like par 5s and some of the par 5s are playing closer to a par 4. It's definitely significant.

Q. Obviously it's always good to get to this point in the week, and it gives you a feel for it if the wind gets up later in the week. But what's your focus for tomorrow now, obviously second round, and you just need to market share you get through the stroke play stage, I guess?

FARAH O'KEEFE: Yeah, it's exactly what James has been keeping me to. I think it's just missing in all the right spots and making sure I don't make too many big numbers. Keeping the bogeys off the card and just, you know, letting the birdie chances, the birdie opportunities go in and not forcing anything to happen.

With stroke play -- there's medalist and all that good stuff, but at the end of the day, you're only halfway there. You're not even into the match play yet. You can basically say it doesn't really matter. It's just advancing, getting through. Tomorrow is another opportunity to go learn some more good the golf course, maybe dial it in a little bit, and I think that's my goal for tomorrow is just keep it simple, miss in the right spaces and don't get too ahead of myself.
