Q. Went from packing a suitcase maybe to shooting 65.
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I was convinced I missed the cut pretty much.
Q. What was it like down the stretch yesterday where you were trying to get inside the line?
BERNHARD LANGER: I was playing great. I was 3-under after 14 holes or something, and going nicely, not even worrying about missing the cut, and then made a 7 on the seventh hole. How befitting is that, 7 on the seventh?
All of a sudden -- I thought I was one out of the cut so I had birdie chances on 8 and 9 and missed them both. Yeah, thought I was packing.
Q. And you guys found out this morning? When did you find out?
BERNHARD LANGER: Yeah, I was up until late thinking, well, there is no point getting up. I was going to sleep as long as I could and come out and have breakfast, work out. I'm staying at house with three other guys and Marco Dawson is one of them and he made the cut. He calls Fred Funk at 7:36. If he had called me I wouldn't have heard it. My phone was off.
Says, hey you guys made the cut. 3-over is tied for 70th or whatever. You better get out here. You may be playing in 45 minutes or a half hour, because tee times were 8:15 to 10-something.
Q. What was it like to have the bonus of being out here to play more?
BERNHARD LANGER: Obviously it's much more fun to be playing golf than packing and hanging around and moving to the next -- especially here because I live in Florida. You know, normally sometimes you can go home but it's too far to go home and turn around and come right back Des Moines.
Yeah, it was great news. Couldn't believe it at first. Somebody must have screwed up or whatever, and we found out it was the app.
Q. Maybe you had that off your shoulders so could just go out and play kind of freely today.
BERNHARD LANGER: Well, I would've anyway. Even if I had known I made the cut, basically in last place, so there is nothing to...
Q. What was the conditions weather-wise and stuff like that, the wind today, stuff like that? How did that affect things?
BERNHARD LANGER: It was anywhere from probably 10 to 12 mile an hour early and slowed down a bit toward the end. There was a breeze going and a different breeze. It was Northwest today; yesterday with south. So the golf course played different.
Q. What was the best part of your game today? What got you going?
BERNHARD LANGER: I was never really in trouble. That was good. Putting was solid. Made a long putt today, which doesn't happen very often.
Q. Where was that?
BERNHARD LANGER: Don't know. Somewhere.
Q. Still trying to wake up?
BERNHARD LANGER: Exactly. Need a nap now. Didn't get enough sleep. But, yeah, everything was fairly decent. I drove the ball well. Kept it out of trouble. My irons still -- some of them questionable, but I hit a lot of good ones and the putting was solid. Made a few but just missed a five-footer on my last hole to go another one under; could have been one better. Could have, should have, would have.
