THE G4D OPEN

May 16, 2024

Wayne Perske

Woburn, England, UK

Mixed Zone

Q. You're on the first page of the leaderboard. But slightly disappointed with the opening two days given the hopes you had coming in here?

WAYNE PERSKE: More than slightly. Just really under performed. So I've been fighting a little bit of a cold all week so not feeling a hundred percent. But a hundred percent enthusiastic.

Yeah, just haven't been able to put it together. Some stuff is really good, and then some stuff is like really mediocre.

So if I can put all the good stuff together, then maybe there's something low tomorrow and we can sort of -- I need the other guys to go the other way, though. You know, I came here to win, and I think I played my way out of it in the first nine holes being like 6-over par. Since then, it's been just a bunch of 3-putts mixed in with some good stuff, too.

Q. You mentioned the cold, though. Obviously first time over here for a number of years. Does it take a little bit of getting adapted to, Scotland, England, the whole travel, etc.?

WAYNE PERSKE: A little bit. With my body, cold is not ideal. It prefers it to be hot.

Q. This is quite warm.

WAYNE PERSKE: Look, I've got no excuses. The course is great. I just haven't done the small things right. So I wish I could go back and start again.

Q. Is it the putter mainly? You talked about the 3-putts?

WAYNE PERSKE: Yeah, lots of 3-putts. I think I had six 3-putts total, and then missing some really easy up-and-downs.

So ball striking-wise, happy. If I can do a little bit better on the greens tomorrow, I might give it a shake.

Q. Seeing the quality of the field at the start of the week, Kipp up there and a few other big names doing well, but does it give that you understanding of the challenges when it's a really, really strong field?

WAYNE PERSKE: Yeah, so I think, look, I don't feel uncomfortable playing with those guys. It's just one of those things. I guess it's been a big year leading up to this.

So it's not done yet. You know, like there's still tomorrow. I do have a 64 in me. So if I can throw that out there, it might put a little pressure on the guys tomorrow. I haven't given up yet.
