Quick Quotes
Q. How would you characterize the round?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I played solid today. Left a few out there. Could have made some more putts but hit the ball real well and played really in-position golf, which is key around here.
Q. Did you feel like with the conditions, very little wind, that there were a lot of birdies out there and you had to go a little low today?
PATRICK CANTLAY: There are, yeah. The course is in perfect condition, and we're getting perfect weather. I can imagine there's going to be low scores.
Q. Could you explain what it is you like about this place where it seems to fit you? I'm sure you'd like more places to fit like that.
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think the design is really good. I think it forces you to really play chess out there and put the golf ball in specific spots.
There's no real advantage to hitting it particularly long, but you do have to control your golf ball.
I tend to play out of the fairway here a lot, and that makes this place pretty easy.
Q. I know you've used the word "compartmentalize" a lot this year but I would like to revisit it. As this continues forward, has it been at all -- does it feel taxing at all?
PATRICK CANTLAY: No, like I said, I think it's part of what I signed up for. It's all about the golf. The golf is the No. 1 priority for me. That's never changed.
Q. I'm not suggesting you're slacking off, but are you having to work harder to schedule your day for your practice or anything else that comes up?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I think it's just about being organized and making sure that you don't waste any time. Time management has always been key. I think it's key for anybody that wants to get a lot done and be successful. It's something I've worked on and definitely stayed diligent on.
Q. As the SSG has been brought into this, have you seen the influence or impact yet or is it still too early to get a sense of that?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think it's been such a short time frame that it's really hard to see if there's been meaningful influence. But I'm hopeful that there will be in a positive direction.
Q. Is it the kind of thing where now is the time to sit back and listen to what they might be suggesting or proposing?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think it's a very big, complicated business. Changing direction and shaping changes takes time, and I think everybody has to realize that.
Q. Did you birdie 2?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I did.
