April 18, 2024

Jodi Ewart Shadoff

The Woodlands, Texas, USA

The Club at Carlton Woods

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Jodi Ewart Shadoff. First major of the year. What was the feeling going into today?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: I was feeling pretty confident. I just switched my putter last week, and feeling really good about it. Holed some really nice putts out there.

It was good. It was good to finally see some putts dropping. It's tough out here. Obviously a major, any round under par is obviously a bonus. Hopefully continue that for the west of the week.

Q. It seems tough out here, especially because you're playing in the afternoon.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.

Q. What was the challenge this afternoon?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I think just in the afternoon obviously the wind is probably a little stronger in the afternoon, and then the greens kind of firm up a little bit.

So it's kind of hard to pick landing spots and know exactly how much the ball is going to run out and yardages and stuff. It's tricky. You kind of have to be on the hole the whole day.

So it's kind of draining on the mental aspect. So, yeah.

Q. Playing in the morning tomorrow, if you play like you did this afternoon, what kind of score...

JODI EWART SHADOFF: You know, it really depends on the wind and the pin positions. I think obviously this morning there was a 6-under out there, so definitely doable.

So hopefully the winds will be a little softer in to the morning and hopefully can fire at more pins for sure.

Q. Besides some of the conditions out here, what are the big challenges on this golf course?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: You know, like I said, the greens are new so they're a little firmer, and it's just trying to pick landing spots and being safe on some holes and being more aggressive and just picking those moments.

So but other than that, it's very similar to last year, so I kind of have experience from playing last year, yeah.

Q. Last question from me: What part of your game was most tuned in today or what was the best part of what you were doing out there?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I definitely hit some really nice drives out there. Obviously being a major, getting the ball in the fairway is the first key, so I did that really nicely today.

Then just holed some really nice like par save putts when I needed to. Obviously had an eagle on 8 which was nice.

Yeah, just played really steady, so, yeah.
