MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 13, 2024

Corey Conners

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Do you think that Matthews can get to 70 goals?

COREY CONNERS: I hope so. The fellows are going to be feeding him. That would be pretty sweet.

Q. How was your day out there?

COREY CONNERS: It was a challenging day. The course got a little baked out. I got myself in some tricky spots and wasn't able to make the saving putts.

Got some nice breaks on 11, 12, 13 to be able to make some birdies there. Hit a lovely shot on 12. Nice to chip in on 11. Made one from off the green on 13.

Other than that, just seemed to not get many favorable bounces and didn't quite have the speed of the greens down. I left myself a lot of pretty fast putts, and they were getting away from me a little bit.

Q. When something happens like what happened on 2, but it's so early in your round, how do you kind of mentally just realize I've got a lot of golf to play still?

COREY CONNERS: Yeah, that obviously was a little unfortunate, tough. Certainly don't want to be left of the green there. I was close to hitting a perfect putt through the fringe and just came up a little short. Walking off there with double obviously a little disappointing.

Pretty good hitting the reset button and came back and gave myself a look and made it for birdie on 3, up-and-down on No. 4, kind of saved some momentum there and was kind of looking to get my foot on the gas and try to climb back up the leaderboard but wasn't quite able to do that.

Q. How much smaller do the targets get when the greens are like this? As far as experience of knowing where you have to land it in these conditions and technically what you have to do to land it there.

COREY CONNERS: Probably in my experience here, it was probably the firmest day with the way that the greens were. I hit a lot of pretty good shots that are bouncing away and into tricky spots.

Yeah, just would have liked to land a few a little shorter. It's just kind of a weird day. I felt like I hit a lot of quality shots. Just didn't really get anything out of them.

Q. The wind obviously wasn't quite as extreme yesterday, but how would you describe it?

COREY CONNERS: It was fairly constant. It definitely played a factor. Certainly we were aware of it all day, and it was part of the discussion on every shot. Yeah, it was just enough where it certainly did have an effect on things.

Today was -- the direction was pretty steady and pretty constant, so a little more predictable.

Q. Still got a lot to play for in terms of points and things. How important is a day like tomorrow when you consider June and then September?

COREY CONNERS: Obviously I want to finish it off well. I want to play well every time I tee it up here. Still be giving it my all tomorrow and try and get myself up the leaderboard as far as possible.

Q. Work to do tonight, or what do you think?

COREY CONNERS: I haven't really had time to digest the round. Like I feel good with things, but when it adds up to 4-over par, it's not very pleasing. Just kind of do a little work in all areas and see what I feel.
