MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 12, 2024

Ryan Fox

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Ryan, that wind today, talk us through that.

RYAN FOX: I'm knackered now. That's got to be one of the hardest days I've had on a golf course. It was so hard to pick what it was going to do, whether it was helping, hurting. Obviously we had some huge gusts out there, and there's some really intimidating shots. Like the par-5s on the back nine with the second, third shot straight into the wind, you're so worried about potentially spinning it back in the water, and all of a sudden you hit it long and it's downwind and you can chip the next one in the water, it's pretty intimidating.

I got lucky on 12 to not go in the water, but the rest of the day actually tee to green I played great. I just struggled on the greens today, couldn't get the lines right with the wind. Hit a couple of bad putts today, as well, but with how hard it was today, I don't think 74 was a bad score.

Q. 17 and 18 would have given you confidence coming home, great couple of up-and-downs?

RYAN FOX: Actually I wasn't worried about the cut, but obviously if I would have made a number down the last four holes, it would have got slightly more interesting. I was really happy with how I played 15 through 18. Gave myself a good birdie chance on 15. 16 is just a hard hole today. Got it up near the fringe and a little tap-in par. 17 with where that pin is today feels like it's impossible to keep it on the back of that green, and I had to almost chip that in, and hit a great drive down 18. That's probably the hardest tee shot on the golf course today, in and out of the left down that chute. Didn't hit a great wedge shot, was kind of in between clubs, but hit a nice bunker shot to finish.

Q. Two years at the Masters, here for the weekend both times. Reset for the weekend now? Hopefully the wind won't be here for Saturday and Sunday.

RYAN FOX: Yeah, hopefully nowhere near as much. It's been a pretty testing couple of days. The golf course really got some teeth today, as well, with it firming up in that wind. I'm sure it'll still be tough on the weekend, but it'll certainly be nice to play with no wind, and I'm pretty chuffed to play the weekend. It's been a pretty rough ride lately, and I tried to enjoy it as much as I could out there and hit some good shots and felt like most parts of the game were actually starting to work again.
