MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 12, 2024

Adam Schenk

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. First Masters, you're through to the weekend. How are you feeling about the week and how you played?

ADAM SCHENK: I mean, it feels great to make the weekend. I played really nice today. Obviously it's very difficult. You add in the slopes around the greens of where you can and can't miss, and it just gets really difficult to predict what the wind is doing and what your shots are going to do. To shoot under par whenever we teed off at 9:30, I would have taken it and not teed off.

Q. It looked like the bunker shot on 17 was particularly perplexing. Can you talk about the challenge of that pin placement with the downwind?

ADAM SCHENK: Yeah, we had a flat 166 to get over the front ridge. We had out wedge at first, and then I went to a 9-iron. Hit the 9-iron pretty good, so I was thinking it was going to be just long. I saw it bounce, so that's where we thought it was.

But ended up in the bunker. Hit a great bunker shot. It was on the downslope, just impossible to stop it. If I left myself 10 feet short, then the next one -- if you miss that one, that one is four or five feet by for bogey, so I didn't want to do that, so tried to make it, and if it went to the fringe, so be it, and sure enough, that's what happened.

Q. How long did it take you to settle in yesterday? You've played a bunch of golf tournaments but this one is different.

ADAM SCHENK: Yeah, so I'd say after the first hole. I don't think necessarily starting off with a bogey is always the worst thing. You don't ever want to do it, but when it happens here, it's okay. I knew it was going to be very windy yesterday and today. But I would say the first hole, and then I hit another wild right shot on 2 for the second shot, so after that I kind of calmed down a little bit.

I hit it so bad on Monday, really bad on Monday. Obviously getting in late from Valero and then playing 18 on Monday, confidence was pretty low after Monday.

Came back Tuesday, had a nice practice session, get it back on the rails a little bit, and by Thursday I was hitting it about the best I have all year.
