Quick Quotes
Q. Tell us a little bit about your round so far, lowest round of the day.
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Yeah, I played pretty solid today. I just stayed really patient. I had really good green speed, played where I needed to play, middle of the greens sometimes. It just worked out.
Q. What do you tell yourself or how do you prepare after a round like yesterday's of 6-over to go out and play like you did today?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I was just trying to talk to myself the best I could. I'm a person who I normally don't give up easily, so I was confident about it, I stuck to my plan, and it just worked out.
Q. When did you find out you were in the field?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I was on the cut, on the line?
Q. No, into this field.
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Oh, I found out like two weeks and a half ago. I was playing in my golf course in qualifying, and my coach came to me, and I was like, I have someone here on the phone for you, and I was like, okay.
This graduate from K-State was telling me I was invited, so I was like super grateful. I was like, I can't believe it.
Q. What's that feeling like?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: It was just like unbelievable. I was like, I can't believe it. In my head I couldn't process it until a week ago.
Q. What were the emotions like after a round like that where you know you need a low one, to pull it off and make the cut on the number?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Yeah, I'm just super happy. I can't believe it. I think I was really disciplined the whole 18 holes, and I just -- I'm really proud of myself.
Q. Did you watch the scoreboard at all?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: Not at all. I tried to not because if not sometimes I tried to push myself too much, and I get like accelerated. I was telling my coach who's caddying for me, I think I just need to stick to my plan, and if it works out, it works out.
Q. When did you find out that your score was going to be --
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: My coach on the last hole was like, I think you're the lowest score, and you might be inside of the cut.
Q. What's the best part of your game right now?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I think my green speed. My green speed has been unbelievable these last 18 holes. I've been driving really good the ball. Really straight, too.
Q. How did you find Kansas State or how did they find you?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I really like it. It's completely different from what I had. It's cold, I've got to say, but like everything else balances. My facilities are amazing. My coaches are the same ones that I had before transferring, but they're like my dad and my mom here in the States. I just feel that the city is so passionate about K-State that it makes everything happy.
Q. What's your earliest memory of Augusta National?
CARLA BERNAT ESCUDER: I want to say -- I think it was Tiger Woods. I cannot tell you the year that he was playing there. I remember it was the last day because he was wearing red and black. So that's it.
