AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

April 3, 2024

Ingrid Lindblad

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Thoughts on your round?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I'm a little surprised about the scores. The greens are a lot softer than they were yesterday. But there are a lot of good scores out there.

Third time now, trying to be where my feet are, take it one shot at a time, not getting too far ahead of myself.

I think that worked out pretty well today. Just where am I going to hit this shot and not think about the nine holes ahead.

Q. It looked like your ball-striking, like you talked about yesterday, was pretty good.

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, I would say basically one or two misses on the course that could have been -- both par-3s on the front nine I didn't hit good shots, but walked away with a par on one of them and walked away with a bogey from the other one. It's all right. Whenever you can get a lot of opportunities, it'll equal out.

Q. Talk about 17.

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, actually I thought I had a good club, but sometimes when I hit those little knock-downs, I just get a little too cute with them, and that was one of them. I thought I hit it fine, but afterwards I was like, it's a little cute, but the putt worked out fine. I'm glad it hit the pin because it was a firm putt.

Q. Is there any relief coming in with a score like that after last year?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, absolutely. Last year it was -- I felt a lot of pressure, but just this year I was just trying to be here, be present, not -- I usually play better when I think less, and I think I did that today. Not too many swing thoughts or thoughts about anything really.

Q. Is it weird not feeling the same kind of pressure maybe that you did last year when this year you come in as No. 1 and last year you came in --

INGRID LINDBLAD: Well, I think it's about the same pressure. Last year there was a lot of talk about who's going to win between Rose Zhang and Ingrid. I don't think I was prepared for it really. It was a lot going on.

Q. How were you able to not feel that same way this year? What made you able to get your mindset so that you don't feel like --

INGRID LINDBLAD: I think just knowing that I can play well at this course. I think I overthought it a little bit last year. It was a little hyped up after a good finish in '21 and '22, and you come out and it doesn't go your way. I wasn't happy about it, but just trying to flush it.

Q. Did the wind affect you at any point today?

INGRID LINDBLAD: Yeah, probably the trickiest hole was probably 6. You're kind of standing between the trees and you don't really feel the wind but you see the flag up there really gusting into. I was 20 meters short. I was able to get it up-and-down, but just overall the scores are a lot better than I thought, even with the wind, but the greens are very receptive compared to yesterday. It's a huge difference.

Q. How do you feel like the setup compared to years past?

INGRID LINDBLAD: We obviously played it a little shorter today. They moved up 3. I hit an 8-iron into 3. Then they moved up 9, too, I think, as well as --

Q. Did you hit it in two, No. 9?

INGRID LINDBLAD: I did not because my driver hit -- it touched one of the pine trees, so I couldn't go for it. But the wedge into that pin today was tricky, but I actually hit it to nine feet and made the putt, so I still made birdie.
