Quick Quotes
Q. How do you feel like the weather impacted you today? Or did it?
LANEY FRYE: Yeah, as far as my personal game and my score I don't think it did too much. The ball wasn't running out and the wind was tough. But everybody is playing in it.
There were a couple shots where I was like, shoot, I got to just commit to the shot I've got drawn up and trust that we did the math right for the wind.
But that was the main challenge it brought.
Q. The first hole was a little difficult. You were able to rebound pretty well today and have a good finish here above the cut line. How are you feeling heading into tomorrow?
LANEY FRYE: I feel good. I'll show up and play my game and see where that puts me. I'm inside it right now thankfully. Try not to think too much about it, yeah.
Q. Jensen talked about seeing all the little girls out there watching today. What does that mean to you to be able to influence the next generation?
LANEY FRYE: Oh, it's incredible. I remember watching, and I wasn't as little as a bunch of these girls are. I remember watching the first when it was Jennifer Kupcho Maria Fassi. I was like, dang, what stage to be playing on, and here I am getting chance to compete in it.
Q. How does it feel to be back? I know you played the practice round, but back in competition here again.
LANEY FRYE: It's special. This place is awesome. It gets overshadowed because of the next course we go to. It's fun to be out here and compete. Every name on the leaderboard is an incredible golfer, so to be one of 72 playing is special.
Q. Laney, quick question.
LANEY FRYE: Yeah.
Q. Good to see you again.
LANEY FRYE: Yeah.
Q. I know you played a couple Peggy Kirk Bell tournaments growing up. For Girls' Golf the tagline is, little girls, big dreams. Talk about what some of your dreams were coming up and then maybe how this compares to your dreams now.
LANEY FRYE: Yeah, like I just said, seeing ANWA -- I don't know if I'm supposed to say ANWA -- but seeing it the first year it was held, my goodness, women's golf has a big future.
I was just a girl then and here I am playing in it, so hopefully I keep progressing and women's golf keeps progressing. Yeah, little girls, big dreams is very true.
Q. This wasn't a thing when you were little bitty.
LANEY FRYE: No.
Q. And what would this have done for you to see that or how would that have impacted you?
LANEY FRYE: We had drive, chip, and putt. I would go out and at Sunset, the club, and I would play with my dad and do a mock drive, chip, and putt. I had three balls that really mattered and I never made it to this stage, but it was motivating for sure.
It came up I was like, dad, let's go practice. We got to be ready. So, yeah, it's very motivating. I can't imagine what this is doing for the little girls, especially the ones out here getting to watch it.
Q. How special is it having a teammate out here this week?
LANEY FRYE: It's cool. I think our assistant coach is coming down later. It adds a special layer.
Q. Looking back to when you were younger, say you had six year old Laney standing by your side, what advice would you give her or tell her?
LANEY FRYE: Just have fun with it. That's what we're here for at the end of the day, so don't make it too big. We get to play a game on a beautiful piece of land with people that we love. Like it's not a bad thing. Just enjoy it.
