COGNIZANT CLASSIC

March 2, 2024

Shane Lowry

Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, USA

PGA National Champion Course

Quick Quotes

Q. Solid round, co-lead heading into the final day. Assess how the day went for you.

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it was pretty good. I started off like really well and got myself right into it and kept going. Hit some great shots when I needed to. 12 was very disappointing -- or 13. 13 was very disappointing. But I feel like I was very proud of myself after that because sometimes I can lose it a little bit when I miss a short putt like that, and I felt from there on in, I hit the ball really well and I putted quite nicely coming in. I was very happy with how I reacted after that.

You know when you go out on this golf course and this tournament that you're going to face a bit of adversity somewhere, and I did a little bit today, and I felt like I dealt with it quite well.

Q. You were obviously in a similar position two years ago, had the break on 18 with the weather. Do you think about that tournament at all?

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, it's funny because I didn't know Sepp at all at the time. I used to tell him at the Ryder Cup that I used to not like him after that tournament, and I've become really friendly with him now, and he's a great guy, and I get on very well with him.

I always say golf never owes you anything. I came up short that day. I've come up short before. I've been on the better end of things before.

You just go out there and do your best and what will be will be sort of thing.

Q. You've played this event like six or seven years, but the last three now -- I don't know if figuring it out is the way to say it, but you've had success three years in a row. Is there something having played it a bunch of years that you learned about this course that you've been able to have such success the last three years?

SHANE LOWRY: I mean, I like playing -- even though the scoring is pretty good this year, I like playing tough golf. I like when everything is on the line a lot out there. You're standing there over a lot of shots on this golf course, a lot that mean a lot, as in one bad swing can lead to a big number.

I feel like I just know how to play the golf course. I feel like I've figured it out. There's certain golf courses, like I'm going to Bay Hill next week, I still haven't figured out how to play that one, and I've played it six or seven years. There's certain golf courses I've figured out, certain golf courses I haven't, and this is one that I have, and hopefully I can keep going tomorrow and give it a good run.

Q. Having it so close to home, being in your own --

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah.

Q. Does it help you at all?

SHANE LOWRY: Well, clearly it does, yeah. It's nice staying in your own bed and having your family around. We've been chilling out. Padraig Harrington is staying with me. It's nice hanging out in the house in the evenings and having a good time and then going to the course and playing some golf. It is a lovely week, and I see some familiar faces. I've been fortunate enough to make a good few friends around here, and to see familiar faces in the crowd is always pretty nice.

Q. Do you ever play this between these events?

SHANE LOWRY: No, I don't. Well, once or twice, but not really, no.

Q. Are you familiar with North Palm Beach muni --

SHANE LOWRY: Yeah, my daughter used to get lessons there. I've never actually played it. My daughter used to go for lessons after school on a Wednesday there and I used to take her and sit at the back of the range and watch her. She goes somewhere else now. It's a nice place.

Q. Going in tomorrow with a leaderboard with a bunch of golfers who don't have the experience you have on this course and talking about the difficulty of this course, does it help, or is every day different?

SHANE LOWRY: Look, every day is different. I've obviously played quite well over the last few days. I'll take nothing for granted. I'll prepare as best I can in the morning, do the same thing I've been doing all week, and go out there and give it myself, and if my best is good enough tomorrow, that will be amazing. If not, we'll be back to the drawing board on Monday.
