Press Conference
THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome our clubhouse leader, captain of Torque GC, Joaquin Niemann. You're still holding the lead by four shots. Tell us a little bit about your day. It was a little bit different than yesterday.
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Yeah, a lot different. The course was playing a lot tougher. That wind was tricky. It never stopped since the first tee.
I knew it was going to be a tough day. I just needed to be in position all day. I got a few bad holes where I was able to kind of bring it back, but overall I'm still happy the way I played and the way I'm still hitting the ball.
Q. You are potentially on the eve of having your maiden win at LIV Golf. Are there extra nerves for you going into tomorrow?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: Yeah, obviously in 18 holes there's a lot that can happen. I'm just looking forward for that day. It's going to be a lot of fun. I'm going to play with Jon, which is going to be my first Sunday against him, and I was looking for that for a while.
Q. Team Torque is also in the lead. You guys are at 15-under currently, five shots ahead of Legion XIII. You guys had an incredible season last year. How important would a maiden victory in 2024 for Torque mean?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: It would be huge. Looking back from last year, Crushers won in Mayakoba and they ended up winning the season. It would be nice to start winning here for the first time.
But still, I think there's a lot of golf to play. There's four scorecards we've got to put tomorrow which make it more interesting, I think, for Sunday, but yeah, we've got to put four good rounds and hopefully get that win.
Q. I wanted to ask about the team concept. Tomorrow all four rounds count for the first time in a regular season. What do you make of that, and what's your opinion of it?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: I think that's the way it should have always been. That puts a lot more input on the team aspect. I think having all four guys making count every shot on Sunday, I think it makes it a lot more interesting.
Q. I think Rahm will be in that final group; are you looking forward to playing with him? When is the last time you guys played together competitively?
JOAQUIN NIEMANN: I don't think I ever played with him on -- probably back a few years ago, but never -- I think we probably played once before. I'm excited for that.
