THE SENTRY

January 7, 2024

Patrick Rodgers

Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii, USA

Plantation Course at Kapalua

Quick Quotes

Q. How would you assess the the week?

PATRICK RODGERS: It was spectacular. Just such a treat to be here, a real privilege. My first time playing in this event, which it felt incredibly special. I had my family here this week and obviously a beautiful week of weather. I hope that we can make a big impact for the hardship that this community has gone through. But personally, yeah, really awesome to be here this week and I played some nice golf on top of it.

Q. From the golf side, what are you going to take to Waialae next week?

PATRICK RODGERS: It's so interesting because they're polar opposite golf courses. It is nice to get in the swing of things, and get some competition rounds under the belt. You can play so much at home, but it's hard to know what you have until you tee it up. Fortunately, we got a few days here with fairly calm winds, so I feel like I have a pretty good idea of where I'm at and, yeah, I like where my game in all facets, just need to keep refining, and see if we can put together four more good days next week.

Q. You haven't had a ton of success at Waialae, but what are the things you like about that course specifically?

PATRICK RODGERS: I love that we're in Hawaii there. It's so incredibly relaxing and an amazing setting. I'm actually a big fan of the golf course. It's kind of small and quirky, but it's a really old classic design. I love the green complexes. I feel like you have to control your ball trajectory into the breeze, and then also you have to know what it's going to do on the ground. For me, it's going to be about keeping the ball in the fairway, that's sort of why I haven't had a ton of success there. If I can put the ball in the fairway a lot, I should have a good chance.

Q. What are the advantages of playing here first and then going to play Waialae?

PATRICK RODGERS: I think it's a big advantage. Getting on this time zone's really helpful, this kind of type of grass, even though it's a really different golf course, you're still playing in similar-ish conditions with potential wind and Bermuda grass. Most importantly, it's just those competition rounds. The more fresh that you are with that, the easier it is to play well.
