THE MODERATOR: Welcome, everyone. Welcome to the Davis Cup Champions of 2023. Let's start the press conference in English, please.
Q. Wow. Filippo, firstly, I said to you, "Good luck," saw you earlier on today, but I don't think you needed any luck with this team and Jannik playing the tennis of his life, it seems.
CAPTAIN FILIPPO VOLANDRI: Yeah, Jannik gave us a lot of things. We don't have enough time to explain how many things he gave us, but all the guys here and the guys that are not here right now gave us a lot of things. That's why we manage, that's why we really won this trophy.
We had, yeah, I always say we had a lot of emergency, but being close, play as a family, yeah, we overtake of this kind of things, and yeah, we did it (smiling).
Q. Jannik, many congratulations. Well played. You're playing at a level of tennis which is quite extraordinary at the moment. I wondered how much of that is down to your Australian coach. Can you talk about him and what he's done for you?
JANNIK SINNER: (Smiling.) I think he was really important for me, for how I was grow as a player, because I feel like he gave me a lot of confidence in one way. Obviously gave something new to the team. Mostly I think the combination with him and with Simone and with all the team is really, really nice.
I think this is one of my key. I think every team has his own kind of stability. I have mine. I think we have worked really, really well.
Obviously I love to play indoors. The last tournaments of the year are usually always indoors. This help me, no?
I think I felt quite good today. Not only today but in the last month. This is a really important win for me and for the whole team and Italy together, no?
We felt the pressure. We had a lot of responsibility. But still we managed. We stand up for it. We were excited. Obviously everyone is really happy about the end result.
Q. Jannik, well done. We have seen other players in the past, and thinking especially of Novak in 2010, that managing to win this title with their country really pushed them forward in their career and helped them achieve other big goals. Do you feel like this could do that for you next year and the years to come?
JANNIK SINNER: Let's see. I mean, this is something different, something really special, because you don't play for yourself but you play for the whole team.
I think every one of us, we were really excited to be part of this. I have to thanks all the team to come through in Bologna where I was not able to play there.
They had some very tough and difficult time there. They stand up for this, and I came here with confidence, no, and throughout the whole month. I played coming from Turin, I gave 100%, all what I had, and I think the whole team, they pushed every one of each other, and this is maybe our key why we are standing here with this trophy.
Q. Jannik, this competition has had 10 different winners in the last 10 years. You've got such a young team here and lots of other young Italian players. I'm just wondering how much of a motivation is it for you to keep coming back and keep winning this competition and maybe trying to dominate.
JANNIK SINNER: We know that we have a lot of potential in each of our players, also the captain and everyone. I think we are all really young, except... Simone. (Laughter.)
He has played this for 15 years. So he gave us a lot of experience in one way, and I think the player who is playing the match sees this kind of thing. Matteo, who came for us, was really important.
Let's see. We are all very young. We are really hungry to trying to win it one more time for our life, but another way, you know, having this feeling at least once, it is a really special feeling.
Q. A question for Matteo. Congratulations. I just wonder if you can tell us how nervous you felt, how much pressure was on you in that first match, given that you have not played very much Davis Cup and you're very, very young, and there is so much at stake.
MATTEO ARNALDI: There was a lot of pressure, for sure. For me was the first time playing the Davis Cup, first time to win the team.
I cannot explain what I'm feeling right now (smiling). When I got in the court, I was nervous like always, but I think after I won the first set, more pressure came up, and I think you could see it. I didn't play my best tennis, but I think the results is what matters.
At the end, I played well in the important moments, and I think was important for us, for the team, to win the match, to win my match, so I'm really happy, and I hope I help the team.
