Flash Interview
Q. All right, here with Yu Liu after her first round at the CME Group Tour Championship. Yu, can you tell us how much you practiced on this course before it got a bunch of rain yesterday? Maybe how you saw the course change before the round today.
YU LIU: Yeah, I got here Monday morning so I play nine on Monday and then the other nine on Tuesday, so I've seen both side of the golf course, which was really helpful.
Just unfortunately got rained out yesterday. I was going to do nine, but then I guess it is what it is.
I feel like I felt pretty rested coming into today. This is my sixth week in a row, so I feel like that little break yesterday sort of helped me.
Q. Did you notice anything different about the golf course today from the practice rounds? Was it playing super wet or slow or anything?
YU LIU: I feel like the conditions were a lot nicer and firmer than I thought, because I think we got over four inches of rain yesterday, which was pretty brutal.
I feel like the grass is in really nice condition, and the greens were actually rolling fast. I felt like, if anything, faster than what I'm used to.
But I feel like that sort of helped me as well because I was able to putt pretty aggressively.
Q. I see you had a streak of birdies right there, I think 12, 13, 14. Take us through that stretch and maybe why those holes suited you and how you dropped so many in a row.
YU LIU: I just feel like starting off I started off pretty well because the first four holes I would say is the toughest holes out there, especially with the windy condition in the morning today.
So I got through that with couple birdies, which was really nice. But then I sort of make some silly mistakes in the middle of the round. Like I bogey two of the probably easiest holes out here, which kind of upset me.
It sort of motivated me to get it back into position, which I did, so very happy, yeah.
Q. Yes, you did. Seems like you've been on a hot streak lately. Tell me maybe what's working so well with your game how happy are you to carry that into the final event on a hot streak?
YU LIU: I feel like I always like playing in Asia. The golf courses suit my game well. Just nice to be able to see a lot of good shots, good rounds, and I think it's a confidence booster that helped me get into a good momentum.
Definitely looking forward to a good week here, yeah.
