Quick Quotes
Q. All right, I'm here with Azahara Munoz after her the first round at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. Great first round. Can you walk us through your round and what clicked today?
AZAHARA MUNOZ: I guess everything. I hit my driver really well. I hit every fairway. On No. 1 I made a really nice putt for birdie. Probably a 20, 25-footer.
On 2 and 3 I made nice up and downs for par.
After that I kind of just got it going. Hit quite a few shots really close. Like I made four, five birdies within four, five feet, so that was really nice.
Again, I stroked the ball really well and made some nice putts, too.
Q. Hitting every fairway out there, how hard is it to do on this course?
AZAHARA MUNOZ: Some holes are narrower. It's quite friendly off the tee for the most part. Still I was hitting it longer than I'm used to and in the fairway, so that really helps.
Q. Anything in particular you were focusing on heading into this week?
AZAHARA MUNOZ: No, just been playing pretty good lately, so just keep doing what I've been doing.
Q. And this is the first tournament named after Annika as well. Do you have a fond memory of her, first time meeting her or something like that?
AZAHARA MUNOZ: Well, the first time I met her I played junior Solheim Cup in Minnesota. I think it was something like 2002. So that was the first time I met her. Obviously she was such an idol. I was only 14 so I was quite star struck. That was really fun.
Q. And last question: You welcomed a son last year. How has that changed how you go about practice, how you play, maybe some of your routines?
AZAHARA MUNOZ: Well, it changed a lot. He's 20 months now, keeping me on my toes. It's tiring. He's non-stop since he opens his eyes. Obviously my practices are a bit shorter. I got to plan my day around him.
But it's the best thing in the world. Being his mom is the best.
