BMW LADIES CHAMPIONSHIP

October 21, 2023

Lydia Ko

Busan, South Korea

LPGA International Busan

Quick Quotes

Q. Rebounded after a bogey early in the round to be able to card four more birdies on the day. Just overall how was moving day for you?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I think my ball-striking wasn't -- it wasn't bad, but it wasn't as solid as the last couple days, I think, early on in my round. But I tried to still stay confident and patient out there, and as long as there's another hole left, there's another birdie opportunity left, and there was a couple maybe more gettable par-5s on the back nine.

So I just tried to stay patient. And I felt like I've been playing really solid the last couple days. So for me, being -- especially being a sponsor's invite, like there's -- I'm not at a loss right now, you know, just to be in this position, I think, is more than I could have ever expected going into this week just because my results hasn't been the best.

So, yeah, just, you know, I'm grateful for the opportunity to be somewhat around I think maybe a couple shots or whatever behind the leader and to -- it would be really cool to be able to defend obviously being here in Korea.

But there's still a lot of golf to be played, and there's so many potentially especially good low scorers out there. So I'm just going to go out there and have fun and hopefully play some good golf myself tomorrow.

Q. We've seen the wind pick up more on this back nine as opposed to the front nine. What did those two birdies on the back nine mean for you?

LYDIA KO: Yeah, I think I played pretty steady and gave myself pretty good looks or birdies on the back nine. And it's not easy. Yesterday it was swirling, and today it was once again like that.

And, you know, it's pretty confusing. And I think you have to commit, and that's sometimes even harder than actually having the right club and the right number.

So I, you know, I just tried to stay super patient and, even if it was like a last-minute decision to have to change clubs or if Paul backed me off the ball, like not get too frustrated and just kind of stay in the present moment.

And unless it's going to be dead calm tomorrow, which I'm pretty sure it's not going to be, we're probably going to have to face that tomorrow anyways. So just be patient, and yeah, and hopefully give myself good looks at birdies.

Q. You said yesterday that commitment was the extra club in the bag, and that's stuck in my mind, I feel like from everyone that's really been coming in. Last year at this event, you were down I think one stroke going into the final day, come back to win it. What is it about tomorrow that you'll draw on? Will you think about kind of last year at all or just kind of keep to your game, knowing that there's a lot in play this week?

LYDIA KO: Last year I remember I played the Pro-Am, and I played so bad that I was like, dang, this is not going to be one of my stellar weeks. But I started off pretty solid, and then I had the few low rounds and obviously played one of the best rounds in those kind of positions on that Sunday. And I made birdies early on, and I just kind of kept that -- kept the train going.

But, you know, I feel like I should draw back on good memories from last year. But a lot of golf, a lot of things have happened in the past year, and I haven't had my best, in all honesty, this season, and just to be in this position is great.

And I'm excited. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be nervous tomorrow, but I think it's a great opportunity. And if I do get to defend, you know, any event, and especially here in Korea, I think it will mean a lot.
