SHRINERS CHILDREN'S OPEN

October 15, 2023

Adam Hadwin

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

TPC Summerlin

Quick Quotes

Q. First off, what was the difference today?

ADAM HADWIN: I just wasn't as sharp off the tee or going into the greens. I really didn't miss a shot for the first three days. I had looks kind of all over the golf course, and even today early, it just kind of -- it didn't click in quite yet.

Took me a little bit to kind of get comfortable, and then I did have some really good looks coming down the back there. You trade a missed putt on 11 with that crazy up-and-down on 13 and good up-and-down on 14 and then had a good chance for eagle. Kind of went back and forth. I just kind of was that one shot on 16 away from having a chance going up 18.

Q. Can you describe the shot on 16 and what you saw from the fairway and what you had in.

ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, it was like 193 front, 206 pin. It really honestly was just a perfect little cut 6.

The ball still covers the front edge as long as it's up the center of the green, and I completely whiffed it, up and out of it, and unfortunately one of my worst swings of the day at the least opportune time.

Q. For somebody who had a lot of time off coming into this week, you still looked pretty sharp out there. How happy are you about the result overall?

ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, very happy. Sometimes coming off six, seven weeks you just never quite know some of the intricate little shots. Obviously a full driver is one thing, but half shots and working the golf ball.

I was very pleased with where I was at. Finishing second on TOUR is never a terrible thing, obviously. Would like one swing back for sure, but a couple putts drop here or there, and I'm right there.

Q. You mentioned yesterday that you're going to take a lot of time off. Are you sure you want to do that after this week?

ADAM HADWIN: It is tempting to come back and play a little more. But no, I have some goals this off-season. I want to put a little weight on and get a little faster. Obviously thrilled with the way I played here, and we'll take that and get ready for January.

Q. I talked to you after Rocket Mortgage when you were close again. It seemed like your overwhelming emotion was you were happy to be in that spot. How does that compare to where you're at now?

ADAM HADWIN: I think I'm definitely more disappointed right now. I think Rocket Mortgage I played just a little bit more -- I guess I didn't really play that much more solid. I just didn't make a mistake there.

I feel like you dump it in the water there on 16, and I certainly by no means gave the tournament, but I would have liked to have hit a more quality golf shot and put a little bit more pressure on Tom coming down the stretch.

You know, I had a chance on 17 that just missed to come up with a chance on 18. That's golf.

Q. Talk about what you saw in Tom's game today.

ADAM HADWIN: Tom is just so steady. I mean, it's kind of shocking actually there to see him bogey 5 and 6. He's just so steady. Fairways and greens, he never gets out of rhythm, out of pace.

5-under was seemingly the absolute worst he would have shot today. I knew it was going to take a good round to compete and to win.

But yeah, he's just so consistent.

Q. When he got off to two quick birdies, does that change your game plan or were you just keeping your head down and playing your own game?

ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, no changes. You know birdies are going to come at some point. It's just a matter of staying patient, continuing to hit good shots and letting them come.

I did that. Mine didn't start until 7 there, but I could have reeled off four or five in a row quite easily. Just to stay patient and keep hitting shots and try and make some putts.

Q. How long does the shot on 16 haunt you or have you already forgotten it?

ADAM HADWIN: No, I haven't forgotten it yet. It'll sting, yeah.

Q. Especially for playing for a while after this now?

ADAM HADWIN: Yeah, that might help. I don't know. I've got nothing to kind of go forward to right now. Kind of enjoy the off-season.

But I would have never expected Tom to three-putt that, either. If I hit a good shot and two-putt for birdie, he probably two-putts his. But yeah, disappointing for sure.
