EPSON TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

October 6, 2023

Minji Kang

Daytona Beach, Florida, USA

LPGA International, Jones Course

Quick Quotes

Q. You're currently in the lead right now. Can you just walk us through your round today and how it felt out there?

MINJI KANG: Today, to be honest, there were more up and downs than yesterday, but I had pretty good chipping on my last couple holes. I think I had a good finish my last hole; I made birdie there. I think I had a pretty good round today, too.

Q. Yesterday you had the best round of your Epson Tour career thus far. What does that mean to have that at the last event of the season after you'd played 21 events prior to this?

MINJI KANG: Like yesterday my mindset was just enjoy, like no pressure to play. It's just the last season. I think that makes a better round. That makes my game better to play everything.

I can have more confidence playing out here today than maybe the rest of them.

Q. You kind of mentioned there about enjoying the round today. Was that something you learned throughout the year playing the 22 events?

MINJI KANG: Yes. Usually I have some pressure during the round. Like I hit to hit good. I need to play well. But that doesn't really work when I play, so just play my game, don't think the results, just like go straight.

Q. Enjoy your day out there?

MINJI KANG: Yeah.

Q. Can you just share, too, some of your best memories this year from playing on the Epson Tour?

MINJI KANG: I had one playoff in Connecticut. I had like seven playoff holes there. But it was a pretty good memory for me and good experience. I had several inside top 10 year. I think that's all the good experience for me playing out here.

There are so many events, playing all the different courses, so that was one of the most good experiences for me.

Q. After this tournament you're headed into more so the off-season but still a few events I'm sure you're going to play. What from these past two rounds do you think will help you in the next few tournaments you're going into?

MINJI KANG: I'm feeling good with my game right now, especially the irons are good, and I have some confidence with my game, and I think that will help.

Q. I don't know too much about your background, but how long have you been playing golf? Why did you pick up the game? Why do you love it?

MINJI KANG: I played almost 10, 11 years. I start pretty late than the other players. They usually start playing like eight, nine years old, but I started almost 14.

Then actually my uncle was working in the pro shop, and he suggested to me to play when I was young. He gave me golf clubs at 11 years old, but I didn't really play that much at that age, and then I just started again to be a player when I was 14.

Then I came to the U.S. 2020, December, followed my coach, the coach from Korea. I worked with him since when I started playing golf, so very close with him, and he helps me a lot. I could not be here without him.
