Quick Quotes Singles
Q. You were playing not Justin Rose but also against 40- or 50,000 fans (indiscernible).
PATRICK CANTLAY: (Indiscernible) Europe has played great all week, and they have the home-crowd advantage going for them. So it's exactly what I expected and how it should be. This event is all about that.
Q. One of your guys is Fred Couples. He was just telling me, "The kid is a baller." What is it that's inside you that allows you to birdie three straight holes yesterday with all the adversity? You come out here today and kind of discard all the noise from the outside.
PATRICK CANTLAY: I just try to use it as fuel. You know, you can take all that energy and turn it into focus and turn it into good adrenaline. That's what I tried to do this week.
Q. (Indiscernible) you knew it was going to be (indiscernible). What was it actually (indiscernible)?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I think it's great. Like I said, the fans are invested. It's so much (indiscernible) you have to embrace it. I did my best to embrace it. Unfortunately (indiscernible) completely false media stories for just one person, and the crowd took it and ran with it. And that's all right. I had fun with them today.
Q. So just to clear that up, all that stuff about the money (indiscernible).
PATRICK CANTLAY: It's totally false. It couldn't be further from the truth. There hasn't been one word of that all week. The U.S. Team has been close all week.
Q. That was a great match against Justin Rose. How special does it feel to notch that first full point for Team USA?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it was good. I knew we needed the hot start. Looks like it's not quite going to be enough unless we pull something out.
But, yeah, I mean, I tried to get some red on the board early, and for the most part I did. Rosey played a good match, made a lot of birdies on that back nine. And hopefully something crazy happens.
Q. How do you reflect overall on Team USA's performance, given you are looking like coming up just a fraction short?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, we'll see. Holding out hope till the end. Like I said yesterday, it's quite a steep hill to climb today. Europe has played great all week, and the crowd has been amazing for them, and it's exactly how the Ryder Cup should be.
Q. A lot of reaction, a lot of speculation, a lot of talk we've (indiscernible). What's the truth (indiscernible)?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, not a shred of truth in the article that just one journalist wrote. It's crazy that one journalist can put a tweet out there totally unfounded with complete lies and (indiscernible). The crowd ran with it, and I tried to have fun with them all day, smile.
That's what this event is about. You've got to embrace the crowd, and, you know, I'm happy to be out there today.
Q. What's it mean to you (indiscernible)?
PATRICK CANTLAY: It means the world. I said it last night. This tournament is all about representing our country and being together with my teammates and representing the USA, and I'm extremely proud to be here.
