Quick Quotes Afternoon Four-balls
Q. Brooks, how difficult was it to sit out this morning and be patient, to wait to play this afternoon?
BROOKS KOEPKA: It was fine. I was there at the first tee watching those guys, cheering them on. Obviously didn't go the way we wanted. Still got a lot of golf left, and we'll see what happens.
Q. Scottie, you guys did eke out the 1/2 point. You birdied the last five holes, and they got you at the end to get that 1/2 point on the other side as well. What kind of golf are you seeing out there from all four of you?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It means some solid golf. They were holing some shots from some places. I mean, Nicolai made a couple of long putts, and then Jon had a chip in there late, and then obviously the one putt there at 18.
It's one of those deals where sometimes, you know, a team gets momentum and those shots start going in. But, you know, I'm looking forward to tomorrow, getting out in the morning and seeing if things start going our way.
Q. Brooks, speaking of tomorrow, the U.S. is going to be down. You're a big sports fan. There are 28 points in this thing, and only eight decided so far today. So there's a lot of golf remaining. What do you think the message should be for the guys tomorrow morning when you go out?
BROOKS KOEPKA: Just keep fighting. You never know what's going to happen. Like you said, still got a long day tomorrow. You never know what can happen. I mean, the same thing could happen (indiscernible), I guess it's just a matter of momentum. But we've got to go out in the first session and play well, that's for sure.
Q. When you look back on the match, what do you take as takeaways, Scottie?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I felt like we played good golf today, especially this afternoon. You know, Brooks and I think we birdied 14 through 18, and we lost a couple of those holes. You know, sometimes the breaks go your way. Jon made a nice chip on 16, and then, you know, had the putt there on 18 as well.
But we kept ourselves in position all day, stayed patient. And we're hoping for a full point, but, I mean, we did what we could.
Q. Brooks, you were one of the first out this morning, helping to build some momentum for your team. Is it tough emotionally to sit back and wait to play this afternoon?
BROOKS KOEPKA: No, I mean, I've done it before. I did it in '16, just go watch the first tee, root for the guys. I mean, usually you're rooting for one session. But, yeah, no, just came out and watched them. Just tried to use that as motivation going into this one.
Q. You mentioned being patient, the heavyweight fight, I hear, lost the first round today, but you can still (indiscernible). What is the attitude you think the team needs to have heading into tomorrow?
BROOKS KOEPKA: Honestly, we'll be fine. We're all grown-ups. We act like grown-ups. We'll be just fine. Just got to play and see where it puts you.
Q. Scottie, what do you think the message is for your team today?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, just keep fighting. Like Brooks said, the guys on this team know what they're doing. We have a lot of talented guys, and we're looking to bounce back tomorrow and put up a good fight. That's really all we're looking for.
