Press Conference
E. NAVARRO/M. Mateas
6-0, 6-4
Q. (Question about playing in Guadalajara.)
EMMA NAVARRO: The altitude's a little bit different, coming from San Diego especially. It's definitely different conditions and it's a little tough. I'm happy with how I was able to work through that today and get the win today. I'm super happy to be here in Mexico. The fans are amazing. They make me feel at home. So super grateful to be here and have their support.
Q. How do you adapt to these conditions? Some players say it's very difficult.
EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, it is tough, for sure. I only got like a day and a half of practice. I think the only way to adjust and adapt to it is just to play in it and kind of accept it and do the best with what you've got. So I don't think you can ever fully get used to it, but you kind of just have adjust your game a little bit and make the most with what you have.
Q. What can you expect for your next match?
EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, playing a fellow American who just had a great run at the US Open. It's going to be a tough match, for sure. I'm excited to play. I know it will be a good battle and I'm excited for it.
Q. What do you think about this schedule? It's, I don't know how to say it, there are many tournaments. How do you feel in this point of the season?
EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, I feel good, actually. I think I played over 60 matches already this year. So I've kind of been on this grind the whole year now.
It's what I prefer. I love to be traveling and playing a bunch of different matches. Just getting to play in different environments is really cool. It's why I do what I do.
So I love it. I'm not feeling it quite yet. I'm not feeling tired or anything. I feel good. So yeah, I'm planning on continuing to play a bunch the rest of this year.
Q. What is the most difficult thing travelling for you? You say you like it. Is it accepting it?
EMMA NAVARRO: Yeah, I like it. I love getting to see new places and traveling to places that I wouldn't otherwise be able to go to.
I would say the toughest part about it is just having to get used to different environments every week. Especially when you go deep in the week before it's a really quick turnaround to the next tournament.
So I would say, yeah, just having to adjust your game to the atmosphere of that week after just playing somewhere for a week. It's a quick turnaround, for sure. I actually enjoy that part of it.
Q. Last week you defeated Maria Sakkari in San Diego. Is your victory the best in your career?
EMMA NAVARRO: Sorry, say that one more time.
Q. This victory, would you say it is the best for you in your career?
EMMA NAVARRO: I think it's, yeah, it's my highest-ranked win in my career. I don't know that I played my best tennis. It's hard to quantify what's my, what my best win has been. But, yeah, it's been my highest-ranked win so far. Hoping that I can kind of continue on that trend.
