Christo Lamprecht

Hoylake, Merseyside, UK

Mixed Zone

.

Q. Christo, obviously a great start to the week. Tailed off towards the end, but your thoughts on what's been a great week for you?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: Yeah, it's been a really -- I guess I told my caddie yesterday it's been a week with every bit of emotion felt, kind of coming off a high on Thursday and just not having it the last three days.

I felt like kind of in control of the golf ball not nearly as well as I wanted to or as I know I can be. It was a little bit disappointing, but obviously standing here being the last amateur standing and getting the silver medal this afternoon, yeah, it puts a smile back on my face.

Q. Was that the goal for the week, to take home the silver medal?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: Yeah, like I said, I wasn't really focused on goal orientated. Obviously it is a nice achievement to have and I'm very proud of it. It wasn't a goal per se, but it's pretty nice. It's pretty nice to finish off the week like that.

Q. When you were sort of discussing the first round, you discussed how you were quite mature with your strategy and that sort of thing. I'm guessing the last three rounds you'll be reflecting on those and learning lessons from those?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: Yeah, 100 percent. I think if I don't take a lot of lessons away from this week, I haven't achieved my goal of being here and wanting to play in a major as an amateur. So if I don't take at least five lessons a with a week I'd be disappointed myself.

Yeah, I think there's a lot of things to take away from, but it's nice to know that my good golf is good enough to compete with anyone in the world, and that's something really nice to take away from this week and kind of motivates me to keep on playing better golf and keep on practising.

Q. What's next for you?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: I'm going home for about two weeks now and then college starts at the end of August and then kind of get going on the college circuit.

Q. Final year?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: Yes, it's my final year.

Q. What did you learn from winning the East of Ireland Championship in 2018? I was there for that in Baltray.

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: I think links golf is extremely simple. Keep it out of the bunkers, never miss it on the wrong side.

I necessarily didn't take anything from Baltray into this week. I think links golf is very similar and obviously you get different course conditions, but I think links golf is very similar wherever you go.

You've just got to stay out of the pot bunkers. I didn't hit my driver well this week and I paid a price. I had a lot of rough -- I think if my driver went straight this week I could have really taken advantage of the golf course, but it wasn't like that.

A lot of lessons will be learned, but I need some time to reflect on that for sure.

Q. What advice would you be giving to kids about to go off to college in America like you were?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: I think take advantage of the great structure it has. I think what I've realised this week is the top in the world do what they do every single day. I kind of woke -- Thursday morning I had a really early tee time and I saw every single guy in the top 20 in the world in the training room pushing around weights.

I guess take advantage of the structure and know it's a day-by-day process thing. You're not going to overnight play some great golf and compete against the best in the world.

Q. You've played obviously with some experienced players. You've known Louis a long time. You played with Danny Willett, the Masters champion. Anything you're able to take from playing with Danny today?

CHRISTO LAMPRECHT: Danny is a really funny guy. I had a blast with him out there today. I laughed at him a lot.

But no, I think just the way they kind of manage themselves on the golf course and how they play and how smart they play. I just think there's a lot of consistency, and I think that was definitely lacking for me this week. Not saying that I don't have it, but my consistency was definitely not there this week. It was kind of all over the place swing-wise. That's something I definitely need to focus on.
