U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

July 9, 2023

Jiyai Shin

Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Flash Interview

Q. Jiyai Shin, 4-under 68. Nice playing out there. Talk us through your round today.

JIYAI SHIN: Well, yesterday I said I'm a little sad we're playing only one more round. Even this morning when I came to golf course, I said, okay, this is my maybe last Pebble Beach playing, so I have to make it good playing, and it works.

I miss all the people and crowds, so I really enjoy to play in front of them.

Q. Ultimately you came up a little bit short, but what will you remember about this week?

JIYAI SHIN: Well, I tried to remember for everything. Even today, weather was perfect to see beautiful course. Even my playing, my feeling and all my fans I will remember forever.

Q. Can you expand on that a little bit, just this historic week at Pebble Beach for women's golf?

JIYAI SHIN: Well, I'm only watching the TV to Pebble Beach and then finally we are here to play.

This course has a great history, and then finally the women's history is in.

Q. With your finish you're exempt into next year's U.S. Open. How much does that matter to you?

JIYAI SHIN: Well, before this tournament my best finish was fifth, so this is my new record with the U.S. Open.

So I think I have one more -- I look forward to one more step up.

Q. Great finish today. Overall how happy are you with your week?

JIYAI SHIN: I'm so excited about playing at Pebble Beach, and until the last hole I had fans cheering me up, and I think I had a beautiful finish.

So although I did not win the championship, but I'm as happy as being a champion.

I think that this experience left me an indelible impression, and I'll never forget this week.

Q. I believe you watched this golf course on TV many times, and after playing this week, which part of the golf course is your favorite?

JIYAI SHIN: Well, this is the course that I've always wanted to play, and I hope to come back here someday to play again.

Q. You're no longer playing on the LPGA Tour but mainly in Japan and Korea, so why is this tournament so special to you so you always want to come out and play?

JIYAI SHIN: Since I last played in the U.S. or LPGA, there was a generation change. We have a lot of new players, and the course is a special course, but I was very much looking forward to new players.

This week I had a chance to see how this new place played, and I was very much inspired by watching them. I'm determined to play harder and work harder and be better.
