U.S. WOMEN'S OPEN

July 7, 2023

Amy Olson

Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Flash Interview

Q. You were giving it a run for a while the front nine, one or two within the cut line.

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I kind of found something on the range this morning, just getting the club a little bit more in front of me, which made me not have to use my body quite so much, which was a positive.

No, so it was fun to hit some more solid shots. Although I think my greens in regulation was still like 4 today, so I really put a lot of pressure on the short game.

I at least felt standing over it like there was a chance it was going to go in the direction I was aiming.

Q. (No microphone.)

AMY OLSON: On 17? Yeah, I was walking up there and I'm like, how on earth does the ball stay up there in that lip?

Yeah, I was able to get one foot in the bunker and then one out of the it, which is a challenge even when you're feeling athletic, and today not so much.

Honestly, yeah, I thought I was going to hit my left leg coming through it, but I'm like, that's after the ball, so if I do, just swing at it, and obviously kind of worked out.

Q. (No microphone.)

AMY OLSON: Trying to think. Oh, yeah, yeah, just it is what it is. I made a lot of good ones out there. I'm not going to complain about my putting over the last couple days. That wasn't the issue.

Yeah, then just an errant tee shot and in the wrong spot.

Q. Still, I mean, you played here.

AMY OLSON: Yeah. No, I'm still super glad that I did come and play and got to experience this. This golf course is all it is cracked up to be and it is a beast, especially when the wind starts blowing.

But it's fair. I felt like if I was swinging well, this is a golf course I would love to play at the top of my game for sure.

Q. Regarding conditions being comparable to 33, 34 majors.)

AMY OLSON: Yeah, it is really similar to a lot of U.S. Opens. It rewards good shots and penalizes bad shots.

There is only a couple holes, like I felt hole 8 today I'm like par is a great score on hole 8 today.

Same with 10 yesterday.

Generally at U.S. Opens par is it a good score, but you don't have to like do anything silly to make a par. Kind of almost felt like that on those two holes the last couple days.

Q. What the next couple days? Wrap your mind around this is probably it for the year?

AMY OLSON: Yeah, just going to enjoy obviously being out here and having family and everything. Yeah, kind of transitioning into a little bit of a new phase and looking forward to that.

Q. (Regarding Taneka/baby-sitting.)

AMY OLSON: Yeah, Auntie is probably going to be hired here for some other responsibilities.

Q. (No microphone.)

AMY OLSON: Yeah, I mean, Taneka has been super loyal. We have been together now I guess almost like seven -- probably seven years ago she worked for me the first time. It's been great to have her by my side during this and during a lot of highs and lows.
