Pebble Beach, California, USA

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Quick Quotes

Q. Early on in the round, you overcame that double bogey and then you came right back with birdie. Can you talk about that.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I started really solid. I teed off on 10 first, and to make a birdie down there at 8:00 in the morning with it being cold, I hit 4-hybrid in there and holed a really nice putt from like 30 feet, so I felt like I got off to a really good start.

I missed the green on 17 in the right spot, and the bunkers are a little heavy. The sand is a little heavy. I just kind of misjudged my landing spot there. But it was nice to come back with a birdie down 18. It's not the easiest tee shot in the world. I played that hole really nicely, and just steady golf around here, I think fairways and greens is really important.

Q. How did you feel you played overall?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Solid. I mean, I holed some really nice putts, and I feel like I'm striking the ball really well. I think this course is definitely -- it's set up to my advantage. Small greens. I hit a lot of greens in regulation, and I think you just -- there's going to be a lot of pars around here, so it's just a matter of being patient and just trying to make the birdies when they present themselves.

Q. What's it like playing a Women's Open here at Pebble Beach?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: It's pretty magical. It's very special. I've played 10 or so U.S. Opens, and this is definitely -- it's an incredible experience. It's hard not to get distracted by all the views when you're out there. You have to really try and focus in on what you're doing. It's pretty special, and I think it's a huge step forward for women's golf.

Q. Do you feel history when you walk out there?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Oh, for sure. I grew up watching the men play here, the AT&T, and the various U.S. Opens. To be able to walk this course, it's pretty special.
