Quick Quotes
Q. Obviously not the victory that you were hoping for, a round of 71 with a tie for second. Just give us your thoughts on the day.
OLIVER WILSON: I did everything I needed to do, apart from had four 3-putts. Really that simple. I played great. Managed everything well. Plodded my way around. Just didn't putt well. You know, just trying to win a tournament, you can't have four 3-putts out there. It's going to cost you.
A bit disappointed, but delighted to birdie the last and finish strong, and delighted with how I hit the ball.
Q. How aware were you with the run that Dan Hillier put together, eagle, birdie, eagle, 15, 16, 17, to post 10-under?
OLIVER WILSON: Yeah, it's so funny, like I wasn't paying any attention to leaderboards, but you know, like suddenly the crowds are gone and you feel like there's no one on the course. You feel like you're in the middle of the pack and the world is ending because there's no one watching you.
It's so strange how it changes from hole to hole. But the cameras were still there. So I'm like, well, I'm still in the mix here. Then on 17, I knew I was roundabout, but knew I didn't have a chance really to win after 17. I was just trying to do my own thing and try and get as high up the board as I could.
Q. You needed to birdie the last to secure an Open spot. You've done that. How excited are you about going to Royal Liverpool?
OLIVER WILSON: I'm really excited. I wasn't planning on it. I haven't been playing that well, but the way I played this week is very exciting. This is about the best I've hit the ball in, maybe ever. I drove it so good, and most people know where I've been with the driver over the years.
So to come out on a course like this and drive it like that is pretty rewarding and exciting for what's around the corner. It will be nice to play in HimmerLand next week defending and then Scotland. A nice stretch of tournaments, and hopefully I can continue playing on that.
Q. Give us your thoughts on going to Denmark next week and defending your title. Obviously this give a boost of confidence and belief.
OLIVER WILSON: Yeah, I didn't need a good week to boost my confidence. I kind of get that from other areas. But it's always nice. It certainly helps.
And going somewhere where I'm comfortable and I know well and I've obviously got good vibes is exciting, and like I said, two massive tournaments after that, so suddenly it's an even better stretch of the year and I needed a good spell to get the season going. It's taken a while, so it was nice to be in the mix here.
It's been a really fun week. Always nice to be with home crowds. Sort of felt like a foreigner on the first tee with Sully and all the locals there. But it's good. I'm looking forward and excited for what's around the corner.
