Quick Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Let's welcome Sergio Garcia, the captain of Fireballs GC. Welcome, Sergio. I had a huge smile on my face today every time I saw you out there with your fans, especially the kids shouting your name, going for fist bumps. What did that feel like out there?
SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, thank you. It was great to see, to see the crowds we got. Obviously amazing weather, amazing place. And to see so many kids is just amazing.
Very proud of that. I think we all should be. That's what we're trying to do, make sure that all those kids get more and more involved into the game, the game of golf, and hopefully a lot of them hopefully one day will come out and play here.
THE MODERATOR: Tell us a little bit about your round today.
SERGIO GARCIA: It was a grind. I'm not going to lie. I didn't feel -- obviously it was tough. The course was playing firm. It's probably the hardest wind that we play here, that Poniente wind coming from the west.
I hit some good shots, but more than anything, I chipped and putted very nicely. That kind of saved me a little bit. I was able to save some good pars here and there and then made a couple nice birdies when I had my chances.
Obviously I'm happy about it. I'm happy about shooting under par in these conditions and without playing amazingly. It was a positive day.
Q. You've played here 15 times, and you've got 14 top-10 finishes and three wins. Was this the toughest you've seen the golf course in all of that experience out here today?
SERGIO GARCIA: Funny enough, no. I've seen it harder than this. The course is definitely opened up a little bit. A few trees here and there fell down, a few trees, they cut some branches to make sure to get more air and light into a lot of the areas of the course, not only the fairways but a little bit in the rough, a little bit on the greens. That has definitely made it not as tough.
But obviously the conditions being firm and fast and then having this wind that we had today obviously made it very tricky. But I have seen it tougher than this.
Q. Do you expect it to get tougher over the next couple of days?
SERGIO GARCIA: Well, we'll see. The wind is supposed to change apparently. If it keeps blowing like it was blowing today, it's going to be hard all week because the weather is beautiful and it's going to stay firm. But I guess we'll see as the weekend goes on how the course plays.
