BETFRED BRITISH MASTERS HOSTED BY SIR NICK FALDO

June 28, 2023

Min Woo Lee

Sutton, Coldfield, England

The Belfry

Quick Quotes

Q. Welcome back to Europe. It's been a busy few months but a lot of things have changed. Firstly, can you describe just how it's been over those few months?

MIN WOO LEE: It's been amazing. I feel like I've had a few times there where I could have won a couple tournaments and in contention, so it's been amazing, obviously starting at the PGA. That was a pretty solid performance.

And the U.S. Open was one of my crazier times of my golfing career. It was a very nice way to finish a U.S. Open with a bogey-free 3-under, especially at a major, which I don't normally do that anywhere. So it's quite nice to do it at a major, and also tied ninth for the week after the Traveler's last week which was really special.

It's been hectic. The fan base in America has been really popping off, which is awesome, and it's kind of like how it is when I'm back in Europe and I really enjoy that.

Q. What's it like as a guy from Australia, specifically Western Australia, the most isolated area on the planet.

MIN WOO LEE: It's been amazing. I think I've always -- even when I started, it doesn't matter if I played good or bad, I've always tried to make other people's day and try to post something funny or do something like that with social media, and I feel like it's been going really well because I've played well and played good in the big events.

So yeah, I've always tried to have the motto of doesn't matter how good or bad I play, just try to make other people's day better and try to laugh about it, really, and I'm doing that while playing good. So it's quite a double-whammy and it's quite nice.

I love playing in America, and yeah, I'm really excited to come back and play at The Belfry.

Q. How much can you credit the success that you've had to your earlier, I guess earlier career? You're still young on the DP World Tour, and you've got that experience and now going over to America, being completely green, not really sure of yourself as a player, and you've won one of our biggest events in Scotland. How critical is that?

MIN WOO LEE: It was huge. There's been stories of going guys going straight on the PGA TOUR, and it's been tough for them because they haven't got that exposure to events. It's been awesome for my career to start out here on the DP World and play well in these big events over here.

It's always going to have a soft spot in my heart, like just being back here at The Belfry, I'm just hanging out with my friends that I've known since junior and amateur days. There's obviously the mini golf clip had a just came out, that's something that I've missed just playing anywhere, that was a lot of junior stuff and amateur stuff that we used to do. It's quite nice to do it when you're at a pro level and at a level that people don't think that we do that, we still miss being around friends and that.

So it definitely helped with my career and America's really tough, the courses are tough and I always come back to how I played in Europe, and yeah, lots of confidence from playing out here and I think it's starting to show a little bit in America.

Q. Coming back to Europe, this is one of our most iconic golf courses, a four-time Ryder Cup venue. How excited are you for this week?

MIN WOO LEE: A really good week. I'm really excited to be around friends and around a course where I've played before, and it's nice. I really enjoy it.

I really enjoy this course. I don't know how I went the last couple times I played, but you know, it was during COVID and it's quite nice to be here while COVID's not around and everyone seems happy, everyone seems happy here. I heard the fans, they were pretty good last year, so I'm excited to play in front of a crowd.

Q. On the 10th, we have the Great Drive Hole.

MIN WOO LEE: I still haven't played the back nine this week, so I'm going to go out there in an hour or so, two hours, to hit a couple shots and see what I'll do during the tournament, but yeah, I remember going for that hole a couple times during the tournament depending on where the pin was. And yeah, I'm really excited, a drivable par 4 is always fun to play.
