Quick Quotes
Q. Patrick, how would you characterize the round? You've now shot 60 and 61 here in your career.
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I made all the momentum saves that I needed to. Got up and down on 4 after hitting a poor iron shot and turned around and birdied next hole; and then had a tough up and down on 6 and got that up and down for birdie.
So basically played really well and tidy around the greens. At this place if you can get all your balls up and down and drive the ball in the fairway a lot you can make a bunch of birdies.
Q. You shot 9-under. You talked about the saves. On the front nine you kind of just need to maybe weather a little bit of the storm to get to the back nine a little bit, and then you obviously turned is it on a little bit there?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, for sure. The scoring on this golf course is usually on the back nine in that middle stretch. Like I played the front nine 4-under. If you can get the front nine you can shoot a real low one, so tomorrow with the scores low I imagine it'll take another low one.
Q. When you know you need a low score, how do you change the mentality or you just know you need to fire at flags?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Not much. When you're playing from the fairway and you have a wedge it's time to hit it close, and other time you got to play to the fat side around this place. Today when the golf course is this soft there are just so many opportunities that you got to try on almost every hole to make a birdie.
Q. I asked a couple guys this. You've won kind of both ways, where you need to go real low and win some where it's a little bit harder golf courses. Do you like one more than the other?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Not necessarily. This is a golf course that suits my eye. I've played well around here. Every time I come to this golf course in particular I enjoy it.
It's great to have a chance coming into the last round.
Q. It was, what, 12 years ago that you shot the 60?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, long time ago.
Q. Amazing to think of where you came from in that sometimes?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, it feels like a lifetime ago that I was playing here as an amateur.
But like they said in my press conference, this is the tournament I've made the most starts at with nine, so nice to come to a place where you feel comfortable.
