TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

June 22, 2023

Chez Reavie

Cromwell, Connecticut, USA

TPC River Highlands

Quick Quotes

Q. Chez congratulations; 6-under, no bogeys on the card today. A lot of the guys who shot the low numbers made hay on the front; you made hay on the back nine.

CHEZ REAVIE: Yeah, it was a good day. Played solid, hit a lot of fairways, hit a lot of greens. Ran a few putts by so I had a couple stressful par putts early, but made those and made some putts coming in.

Q. 18 of 18 greens. I would say that's pretty good.

CHEZ REAVIE: Yeah, yeah, it was nice. The wind was kind of a little bit all over the place, but we were able to kind of figure it out when it was my turn to play and hit some good shots.

Q. You won here in 2019 and came back to defend your title in 2020 with no fans. Do you feel like you missed out on something, you'd like to try that again?

CHEZ REAVIE: Yeah, it's great playing in front of fans. It's so much better. I really struggled with no fans. I just seemed like my energy was low every day, and I didn't realize how much I fed of the energy of the fans.

Q. You are 114th in the FedExCup standings. Went through a dry spell maybe January through March; really turned it on I think of late; picked up a lot of points. Your thoughts as you try to get to the Top 70.

CHEZ REAVIE: Yeah, got off to a terrible start. Was really struggling. Figured a few things out with my equipment and with my golf swing.

Yeah, I've been playing solid as of late, but now I kind of waited really late so I need to have some really big weeks.

Q. Chez, you played 45 rounds here now. This is your second-best round at this course: 63 you shot the year you won; 64 today. Why specifically do you like this golf course? What sets up for you well?

CHEZ REAVIE: I think you just really have to be strategic on your approach shots. You have scoring clubs, so make you want to be really aggressive.

But then when you're really aggressive and you miss in the wrong shot you instantly make bogey.

When I started to figure out, hey, even though I have a 9-iron in my hand I can still play 15 feet to the fat side of the green. If I hit a great shot, close, great. If not, I'm looking at 15 feet rather than kind of down the hill in the rough kind of really struggling to make pars.

Q. I'm sure you look forward to evert even you play, but where does this rank in the events you look forward to playing just because of the past history here?

CHEZ REAVIE: Yeah, I've always loved it here. I think it's the people, the golf course, shaping it both ways, needing to go strategic. Those are all things I really enjoy doing when I play golf, and not having to hit 3-iron or 5-wood at all the par-4s is nice, too.

Q. You've been putting a lot of work in on your speed. I've been noticing you club head numbers are way up there. Does that change the mentality of the game or just an extra weapon in the bag?

CHEZ REAVIE: I look at it now as an extra weapon. I would say at first this year it was kind of a change in mentality and that didn't really suit me. I've never been a bomb and gouge guy. Even if I hit it ten yards further but I was in the rough I struggled.

So I tried to just tone that back and have a little bit more speed, but doing it safely and smartly.
