THE AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

June 20, 2023

Joshua Greer

Lancashire, England, United Kingdom

Quick Quotes

Q. Great display today, 6-under, 9-under total, comfortable into match play. You must be delighted with that.

JOSHUA GREER: Yeah, I had a good start. After four holes, I was like, I guess I can still lose it from, there, but I was hitting it well. So wasn't feeling pressure then.

Q. You had a good start, even with the rain?

JOSHUA GREER: Actually, funny enough, as soon as I teed off, the rain stopped.

Q. So did you feel better with the conditions? Obvious question, a bit softer, was it?

JOSHUA GREER: Yeah, it was a bit softer, and if you're hitting on the fairways, the greens are rolling great but you can land them at the pin. Definitely helped, the rain this morning stopping before we went out.

Q. Is that the target coming over, is that what you wanted to do, get into the match play and take it from there?

JOSHUA GREER: Yeah, get it into the match play. It gives you confidence when you play in stroke play to get in there, so I'm glad I've done that.

Q. How much do you know about these venues?

JOSHUA GREER: Not much. But I like them.

Q. You played, your background, you grew up in Glasgow, so you played a little bit of links golf before then, or not?

JOSHUA GREER: I didn't really play much golf when I lived in Scotland. It was more football. I guess all the courses I've played have been in Perth (Australia), but come back here every year, so I'm used to this sort of golf.

Q. You played The Links Trophy, so acclimatising again. What was that experience like at St Andrews?

JOSHUA GREER: It's good. It's always great. I think the whole experience of being there, it's my favourite place in the world, so I love being there.

Q. And hopes going forward here, just keep it going? What's the strength to success around here, do you think?

JOSHUA GREER: I'm hitting it pretty good, so if I can keep doing that, it makes it a bit easier. I guess whoever putts the best generally wins, but just got to see what you can do.

Q. And just moving on as well, talk to us about what you intend to do in the future? I think you've got PGA Tour of Australasia qualifying rights?

JOSHUA GREER: Yeah, I went to the PGA Tour of Australasia Q-School at the start of the year and got my card there. Obviously I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I've got Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in November, October, so I have no clue.

Q. So I take it the goal is to knock off one of these big ones, that could be pretty cool.

JOSHUA GREER: Exactly. Got a few. Got this, and obviously, Asia-Pacific and hopefully U.S. Am, and obviously if you win one of those, you're obviously in for another year.
