ROLAND GARROS

May 30, 2023

Fiona Ferro

Paris, France

Press Conference

R. PETERSON/F. Ferro

6-2, 6-0

THE MODERATOR: Fiona, bad luck today. Obviously you came from qualifying, which is very good, but you lost today. Can you share your thoughts about your match?

FIONA FERRO: Yeah, obviously it was not a good day for me. I did a lot of errors. I was not feeling as good as the other day on the court.

For me it's disappointing, of course, but I'll try to focus on the three good matches I had in qualifying and keep positive about it.

Q. You're disappointed by this match, as you said, but there is the satisfaction of having had a great adventure with these three good matches in qualifications.

FIONA FERRO: Yes, I think we have to remember the positive sides. At the moment it's difficult because I'm very disappointed with my performance today. I didn't necessarily manage to engage in a battle.

It's a player that was offering more quality than the last players I've played recently, but, yes, it's disappointing. The audience was with me, and I would really have liked to do more.

But it's an additional step on my road to reconstruction, and I'm going to continue in this direction.

Q. Maybe there was a little bit of emotion of getting into the final draw?

FIONA FERRO: Yes, I had three days between the qualifications and the final table. I think that I burned a lot of energy in my head thinking about it all.

It's the sort of period that I have to learn how to manage better because between matches like that, you can't really train like on a standard week because you have to try to keep your energy for the next match.

But, on the other hand, you have to stay in the game, so it can take quite a lot of energy. I didn't manage that well enough.

Q. You talked about your reconstruction. What you have achieved here in Roland Garros, how will this help you?

FIONA FERRO: I think it was important for me to show that I was a tennis player, above all, and not to let what's happened define me. So these three qualification matches grew my confidence because it showed me that I can play tennis again at this level.

Q. Now that you are convinced that you can play tennis at this level, what is your program?

FIONA FERRO: My ranking is between 350 and 400, something like that. I'm going to have to go through the steps and the tournaments I've been playing since the beginning of the year.

So in June there are a lot of tournaments, and I will, therefore, be playing all summer if my body will allow me to do so. In any case, I'm motivated to do this.

And the objective is to get into the qualifications of the Grand Slams as fast as I can. Of course, without putting too much pressure on myself, but just taking it day by day and setting myself small objectives on a daily basis.

Q. If you had the microphone, what would you have liked to say to the audience at the end of the match? Probably "Thank you" and "See you next year"?

FIONA FERRO: Yes, I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart for the support they've provided me with over the past few weeks and say to them -- I almost wanted to say, I'm really sorry that I couldn't communicate more with you today and that I couldn't share more with you today.

Above all, to say thank you to them and, yeah, see you next year.
