Quick Quotes
Q. All right, here with Sophia Schubert. Being able to make it out of the group two against some heavy hitters in that group, just how are you feeling walking off the course today?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I'm feeling great. I accomplished what I wanted to so far. I still have a ways to go, but I'm feeling really good about where my game is right now and just getting through that group was a great accomplishment.
Q. What was the mentality like from the last time we talked yesterday to today?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: It was the same. I mean, I knew like it's match play. Anything can happen. People come out and play great, play fearless.
I was like, keep doing what you're doing. Hit fairways, as many greens as you can. They're tough to hit out here. And just make par and force the issue there. That's what I tried to do all day.
Q. Anything in the back of your mind saying, you know, a win here may really propel me?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: It was. I was thinking about, what if I win today. I had to stop thinking about that. Thinking about outcome never does anything good. So George really helped me with that today. My caddie, George.
He helped me stay patient. He was like, focus on the shot you're on the right now and whatever happens, happens.
Q. You got through this part of the tournament and there is a sigh of relief, but there is a huge hurdle in front of you; probably 36 holes.
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah.
Q. How do you recover and prepare mentally to play that much?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I think just getting through this you can celebrate a little bit, but then there is still a long way to go. It's kind of like making a cut. You're happy you make the cut, but you still have a few more days and you I want to grind and play the best you can.
I'm going to kind of forget about what's happened. That golf is over with. I have a lot more golf to play hopefully.
So just keeping the same mindset going forward.
Q. Yeah, apparently you're going to play Lindsey next round. Any thoughts on Lindsey and her game and how it stacks up with you?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: You know, I've never played with Lindsey before. Maybe done a practice round together. I don't know a lot about her game, but I know she's a solid player.
It's going to be good.
And I think just going out and doing the same thing, trying to make pars, will hopefully do it.
Q. Yeah. And does it really matter who you're playing? You just need focus on yourself, don't you?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Exactly, yeah. Really doesn't matter who your opponent is. Could be the No. 1 seed, the last seed, doesn't matter with match play. I mean, you go out and you have to play good golf no matter what.
Q. Thanks.
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: Yeah.
Q. This is your debut appearances in this event. Last year those that made it through to the round of 16, really seemed to spark a catalyst in their season. Do you feel kind of that spark hitting with how you played through group play?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I do feel that spark. I've been kind of waiting for this moment. It's been a rough start to my year this year, but I'm going to put that in the past. What's happened is gone and I'm moving forward.
I feel like my game is trending upward, so I'm going to keep rolling with that.
Q. You said you're feeling good in your game. What is it about your game that you feel the most comfortable with?
SOPHIA SCHUBERT: I think the mental side of it. I've got a lot better at that the last few weeks. I'm hitting the ball well. My ball striking is good. Putting has gotten better.
So I think it's just maintaining my focus throughout the round. I think that's definitely gotten better for me. I've noticed that this week. So just continuing doing that.
