Flash Quotes
THE MODERATOR: Patrick Cantlay is with us on day two of the 105th PGA Championship. Patrick, a 3-under 67 for you today. How would you summarize your round?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I played really well today. Did a lot of things well. The golf course is playing difficult, and I hit a lot of really solid, smart shots.
THE MODERATOR: Open it up for questions.
Q. What was the difference game-wise between yesterday? I'm just curious if you were that much better today, or was it just one of those wonky scoring things yesterday?
PATRICK CANTLAY: I definitely drove it better today. I drove it poorly yesterday, and I'm used to driving it really well, and today I drove it like I'm used to.
Q. What were you doing on No. 4 when you hit the tree? This is small. I just couldn't tell whether it was a good break or break.
PATRICK CANTLAY: I hit about as good a drive as you can hit. The fairway is almost unhittable today, which is always funny considering the hole is 620, and then I was right up against the collar. I tried to hit a draw 5-iron around the tree to get it up near the green, but I had the 6-inch rough snag the hosel, and so there was almost nothing I could do.
Q. That was a good break to come down into the fairway?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah.
Q. The last thing I wanted to ask you was the word "patience" which I hear -- it almost sounds so cliche. We hear it so much. Is this an example of it, when you get off to the start you did yesterday or the round you did yesterday, not to lose your mind knowing what this is and coming into tomorrow.
PATRICK CANTLAY: Yeah, I think on a golf course like this, good rounds go a really long way. If you hit great shots all day, you can play a good round, and if you just get a little off all day, you can play a round like I did yesterday where I shot 4-over par.
It's just -- it's just the line is that small. You'd better be on the right side of it.
Q. How much of a difference do you think it makes that you were able to play early today and avoid the wind that's possibly coming this afternoon and evening?
PATRICK CANTLAY: Oh, I hope it blows more than it did this morning, but I didn't avoid any wind. I don't know if you were out there watching golf, but it was pretty windy.
Q. It could pick up even more.
PATRICK CANTLAY: That would be great.
Q. Do you think it helped a lot to play early? Do you think the guys that had the draw playing early had an advantage?
PATRICK CANTLAY: We'll see. We'll see how the scoring averages work out.
