Quick Quotes
Q. Here with the still undefeated Australia team. I want to start with the first match that we had with Minjee and Steph. I want to take you back to the 17 tee. I want to know the decisions there and kind of what that hole was like for you guys. I'll start with you, Minjee.
MINJEE LEE: We kind of just did our own thing. Steph just stiffed it and it was like a foot. Then I hit my second shot really comfortably.
Q. Steph, take me through 17 in your eyes.
STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, I think I just had a bit of momentum. I birdied 15 and 16, so I kind of just walked on to the tee. I was pretty confident with the club --
Q. 6 or 7?
STEPH KYRIACOU: 7.
SARAH KEMP: I hit 8.
STEPH KYRIACOU: No, you didn't. (Laughter.)
Yeah, and it was just a pretty confident shot, and yeah, I stiffed it.
Q. Minjee, take me through the mentality of today overall. Was there any kind of game plan or what were your thoughts knowing that the conditions were going to be a little bit tougher than yesterday?
MINJEE LEE: Not really. We just tried to do the same as yesterday, but I didn't hit the ball as good today. Steph probably made a few more birdies and kind of got us over the line. Yeah, great partner.
Q. Japan didn't really go away. You guys took it to the 18th. Steph, what does it say for the two of you keeping resilient through the entirety of the match?
STEPH KYRIACOU: Yeah, I think we did really well. I was trying to gin Minjee up. Like in the middle it was a bit rocky there, and we were both kind of just making pars.
MINJEE LEE: Then we got it back. It was just back and forth pretty much the whole time.
STEPH KYRIACOU: But I got Minjee fired up. She was out of her comfort zone a little bit, weren't you?
MINJEE LEE: Steph made me swear one time. But it's a secret.
STEPH KYRIACOU: Probably shit.
Q. For you guys in your match, being able to still walk away with some points, Hannah, take me through what the day was like for the two of you.
HANNAH GREEN: Yeah, we played good, we just couldn't really get it in the hole quick enough. Yesterday we had so many birdies and were really confident with the putter, but today they weren't seeming to go in. We both played well, and I think if we continue to do that tomorrow, then we'll be fine. But I think to come out with a half point was a really good result today.
Q. Sarah, what was it like on that 18th hole? You guys tied it back up towards the end. Walk me through what the final hole was like for you.
SARAH KEMP: We felt pretty good. We won 16. We got a gift from them. They made a bogey and we made two solid pars. We felt we were pumping each other up going to 17 and 18.
It's that type of hole that a birdie is going to half and an eagle is probably going to win the hole. We were trying to make 3, but we knew we were probably going to make 4, and it wasn't going to hurt us too bad. We felt pretty good.
We both hit good drives down there and both hit it on the green, and yeah, so to get a half point. Greeny is right, we played well, we hit it good, we just didn't hole as many putts as yesterday.
But we really grinded it out. We probably could have let it slip a few more, but we really hung in there, and to get this half point is huge.
Q. How much of a factor was the weather out there today? Do you guys like playing in this type of weather?
HANNAH GREEN: No. Can you tell we're from Australia?
Q. How much of a challenge was that?
SARAH KEMP: Yeah, we all have a lot of layers on. We didn't grow up playing -- we grew up playing in just a shirt, that's it, and shorts. So this is very different for us.
Yeah, it probably -- I don't know, when I have this many layers on I'm probably at least half a club less, and it got really windy out once we came out the back. The wind really started to pick up.
I was uncomfortably cold when we got to 11 and 12, but was trying to do these little jumps and stuff. But we're not used to this. We'd prefer the sun to come out tomorrow.
