Quick Quotes
Q. We did our research. This is your first LPGA Tour event. You're playing really well.
SIYUN LIU: Thank you.
Q. How are you feeling right now?
SIYUN LIU: I'm super excited because I kind of got into some nasty spots around the greens, and like all I was thinking is just don't blow up, don't blow up.
I mean, I'm not really thinking about getting into top something. I was just thinking trying to make the cut.
So I'm very excited that I'm like playing really well these past few days, and honestly the front nine, like I've been just narrowly missing a lot of putts for birdies.
I'm glad that I kind of collected myself. I switched to a new ball and I just started making putts. That might be it, too.
Q. What's the ball?
SIYUN LIU: It's the same number. It's the Pro Vx. But, yeah, after I switched the ball I just started making...
Q. Literally switched.
SIYUN LIU: Literally switched the ball. Switched to a new ball and started making putts. Sometimes it's that kind of karma.
Q. So why did you decide to come over and try to Monday qualify here?
SIYUN LIU: I kind of wanted to try something different. I'm playing on Epson Tour right now, but my ultimate goal is to play on LPGA, so I feel like it would be a good experience for me. Like getting used to like the top level golf course, what it's like, and what the field is like, where I'm at in comparison to everyone else.
So it's kind of a prep for me for the future.
Q. What's been the takeaways after two days here on the big leagues?
SIYUN LIU: One, everyone is better at making birdies. That's for sure. Like they are draining some 40, 50 footers.
And a lot more consistent.
Chips around the greens also more solid.
I'm also finding out I'm pretty good at those, too. Yeah, it's definitely like kind of a confident booster for me, too. So, yeah.
Q. Absolutely. You wouldn't be here if you hadn't earned the spot.
SIYUN LIU: Thank you.
Q. Had you played in Hawai'i before?
SIYUN LIU: No, this is my first time.
Q. What do you think?
SIYUN LIU: I'm loving it. The weather is absolutely gorgeous. Everyone is so nice. It's my first LPGA event and everyone is like treating me like I'm the big person. I'm like oh, my God. I'm so not used to it.
Q. Have you played in wind like this before?
SIYUN LIU: Yes. So last year in Kansas I played an Epson Tour event. The wind got to 60 miles when I played. Like I'm not kidding. I can't even tee the ball up.
So after that I kind of felt like any wind, I can handle it. You're going to miss some shots, but it's like I've seen worse, I guess.
Q. Absolutely. So you made it through two rounds here. Don't want to get ahead of yourself, but how do you tackle the weekend? You're very safely into the weekend. How do you tackle the weekend now at your first LPGA event?
SIYUN LIU: Well, like I've been playing some very conservative golf the past few days, so I guess this weekend I might attack it a little bit more. Like at the flag instead of just leave it in the middle of the green.
Because I'm finding on the out that my chipping is pretty solid this week, so I don't have to worry about leaving myself short sided. They aren't like pressing the greens too much this week because of the wind.
So, yeah, I'm going to try to see if I can go more at it and see what happens.
Q. You made the cut. You've got nothing to lose, right?
SIYUN LIU: Yeah, exactly.
