Quick Quotes
Q. Were you inspired by watching Rose at all yesterday?
GORDON SARGENT: A little bit, yeah. Makes me want to be that good, win every time. But yeah, it's pretty cool seeing her out there.
Q. Did you learn anything out there today with JT and Mac?
GORDON SARGENT: For sure, yeah. Just kind of following them around. Obviously they know what they're doing; they've been out here plenty of times. Just kinda seeing the shots they hit, their kind of approach to the shot. Obviously we were out there doing a practice round, but you still have the serious side of it.
Yeah, I think definitely learned a lot, enjoyed kind of being in company with them and tagging along.
Q. First experience, first official practice round with the galleries. This is the Masters experience you're getting for the first time. First experience getting on the range, warming up, seeing galleries everywhere. How did it go for you?
GORDON SARGENT: It was good. I feel like I got some practice in this morning. A bunch of my friends came over last night, so that was a little bit less -- I guess more relaxing a little bit, but yeah, definitely nervous on the first tee a little bit, hitting in front of so many people. But it was cool to see everybody cheering for you and stuff, and feel like I learned a pretty good amount, and yeah, definitely just use what I learned today going into the next couple days.
Q. I heard that you were kind of up and by a couple of the pros you were playing with today.
GORDON SARGENT: Yeah, I couldn't let them just hit it past me.
Q. Any kind of remarks that they had, just looking over their shoulders, like all right, who's the kid here?
GORDON SARGENT: Not really. I mean, JT said something about how far I hit it by him on 11, but yeah, I guess they got used to it or something.
Q. How far you hit it by JT on 11?
GORDON SARGENT: Yeah.
Q. How far was it?
GORDON SARGENT: It was probably like 25 yards.
Q. How many drivers are you hitting out there and how many 3-woods, driving irons?
GORDON SARGENT: I hit 3-wood on 7 yesterday and 10 today, and then the rest drivers. Obviously if the wind changes a little bit, conditions firm up, you can definitely hit some more 3-woods.
Q. What was the longest club you had into a par-4?
GORDON SARGENT: Probably 10 just because I didn't get it chasing down the hill. But other than that, had 9-iron into 11. I played 5 yesterday, I think I hit 8 maybe. It definitely just changes based on the weather and stuff. 5 might be a 3-wood hole if the wind is off the left just because I'd rather hit a cut out there and the fairway is definitely wider for that. Yeah, I think if you're hitting driver well, there's no point in not hitting it.
Q. What did you do on 13?
GORDON SARGENT: I hit driver today, like a pretty straight ball, just a little draw. I think once it firms up, it could be a 3-wood, but also driver obviously gives you the best chance to get it around the corner. I think I had -- it was a front pin, kind of had 200 in today, but yeah, like it just depends on how you're feeling.
Q. Is that 6-iron for you?
GORDON SARGENT: I hit 6, yeah.
Q. I heard you talking to Ben earlier today or maybe it was yesterday. Confused for a DCP?
GORDON SARGENT: A little bit, yeah. Well, I got here yesterday, and I'm walking around, and no one is with me. I don't even know if I had my badge with me; I think I probably still had it in the car or something. I was like, can I have player dining? They're like, I don't know, player? I was like, yeah, I know, I'm an amateur or whatever. Then thankfully a couple guys from when I came last month from inside remembered me, and they kind of guided me along. But yeah, it was pretty funny; they're like, where are your parents, like did they send you by yourself? I was like, no, they're coming in. I can travel by myself sometimes.
Q. No one actually asked if you were playing --
GORDON SARGENT: No, but there was a little speculation probably but not to my face asked me.
Q. Do you think you could win a Drive, Chip & Putt amongst 19-, 20-year old division in college golf?
GORDON SARGENT: I would think so. I would hope so. I mean, yeah, definitely if I'm driving it well, I feel like I'm probably one of the best there. I feel like I chip it pretty well, too, so yeah, I feel like I'd be at the top, pretty close to the top at least.
Q. Are you pretty close with JT, just same agency, obviously Limbaugh was at Bama when JT was there? Do you consider him kind of one of your bigger mentors?
GORDON SARGENT: For sure. I feel like -- this was actually my first time playing with him, but I've talked to him throughout the aging process. He was great. Then, yeah, I just kind of text with him and ask him any questions I have, and he's super good at responding and stuff like that. Yeah, I think kind of the brokered relationship a little bit through the agency is important, but also he's nice to pretty much everyone, so just kind of having that relationship when I need it, it's really cool, too.
Q. What do you do to prepare tonight, just to reflect back on this first day and also game plan for tomorrow?
GORDON SARGENT: Well, I'm staying in Crow's Nest tonight, so hopefully try and get some sleep. But yeah, I'm playing at like noonish tomorrow, so have fun at the amateur dinner tonight and get some good rest, and hopefully get a little practice in tomorrow and then play 9 or 18, not 100 percent sure yet, and then kind of kick your feet up because I know it's going to be hot Wednesday. So yeah, just kind of getting your work done early is important.
Q. Who do you have in your group tomorrow?
GORDON SARGENT: I think Rory.
Q. I've heard of him.
GORDON SARGENT: Yeah, I have, too. Hopefully he's real.
