MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2023

Sepp Straka

Chris Kirk

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How was it on the out there?

SEPP STRAKA: Good.

Q. I love the fact you were playing with Chris. Want to do a little something on that.

SEPP STRAKA: Yeah.

Q. I know I guys are buddies, both Dawgs. But playing out there, what was that anecdote like for you? The fact that you guys won the last two Honda Classics, is that a little special thing that you share?

SEPP STRAKA: Definitely, yeah. Especially we stayed together both years down there. Yeah, it's definitely a thing that kind of ties us together.

I've been friends with Chris for a long time now. He's a great guy, and it's just awesome walking around here with him.

Q. When he won the Honda this year, did you have a special moment? Here he is right here.

CHRIS KIRK: I was supposed to go first.

Q. I was just asking him about the special anecdote of you guys winning back-to-back Honda Classics. You're already buddies, both Dawgs. He said what was that moment like to be able to accept the trophy?

CHRIS KIRK: Yeah, it was definitely cool. One of the coolest things that people don't talk about much about winning is like when you get done and some of your buddies are there when you finish on 18. It's a really special moment.

For me to be there when he won last year and him to return the favor and be there when I won this year, definitely something that I know neither of us will ever forget.

Q. You're back now with the Masters. This is your second. Are practice rounds just a little bit more special because of the -- I don't know, like how deep you are about being a historian or traditionalist, but what's cool about a Masters practice round for you guys and to do it together?

SEPP STRAKA: I think any round you can play around this place is special. It's just an awesome golf course and obviously so much history. You've been watching the shots for so many years growing up, and just being able to hit those shots and kind of relive those memories is pretty special.

Any time you get a chance to play you kind of take advantage of it.

CHRIS KIRK: Yeah, with both of us growing us, Sepp by way of Austria growing up in Georgia, me in Atlanta, the Masters is the pinnacle for almost every golfer I think, and more so for us.

Yeah, I think the challenge this week is because it's just such a privilege to be able to go play the golf course to not do too much in the practice days.

You just want to go play 18 holes every day. Physically it's a really difficult walk so you have to pace yourself a little bit, even though we would love to be out here playing all day long.

Q. How do you guys work off each other out there? What's the dynamic? Keeping to yourselves or sharing knowledge or talking about other stuff?

SEPP STRAKA: Definitely sharing.

CHRIS KIRK: Uh-huh.

SEPP STRAKA: Actually had a plugged bunker shot today and I was giving him crap because I got up and down and he taught me how to hit it years ago. So like using your own techniques against him.

No, we definitely share, try to help each other out.

CHRIS KIRK: Yeah, we play a little money game every time we play golf together. So I would say Sepp and I are very close and want the best for each other and want to help each other any way we can, but are and also extremely competitive too.

It's a very friendly competition obviously, but I would say we really, over the last few years, pushed each other a lot I think.

SEPP STRAKA: No doubt.

Q. Who won the money today be?

SEPP STRAKA: Bye, guys.
