MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2023

Seamus Power

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. How did it go out there for you today?

SEAMUS POWER: Great. It was nice. I played the back nine just by myself. It was gorgeous. The course is in amazing condition and, yeah, getting an extra look st it. Yeah, everything feels great.

Q. Was there anything particularly you wanted to do or get accomplished?

SEAMUS POWER: Not particularly. I played on Sunday and we did a lot of our strategy stuff and talked a lot of stuff out, so just wanted to reconfirm some of that stuff.

For the most part, just trying to keep up with the greens. They're getting tiny bit quicker each day it feels like, so just staying on top of the speed and the bounce of the ball, and that's about it.

Q. How does the strategy session work?

SEAMUS POWER: Just, I mean, obviously the new tee on 13 adds an extra element there. We're talking about the wind, we might go for it when we layup, and if we're laying up you can completely change the angle of your wedge shot based on where the pin is.

So that's just so in tournament time there is no confusion, no real conversation, the plan is made, and you just kind of go with it. So that's the easy example.

Obviously 15, same idea. When you go for it, when you lay up to and which spot or what yards you would lay it up to.

Q. Is that you and your caddie?

SEAMUS POWER: Just me and my caddie, yeah.

Q. As far as just your expectations for this week, how do you look at it?

SEAMUS POWER: Same as anything. Game feels in a really good spot, so going to be a lot of preparation the next couple days and just try to give myself a chance going into Sunday. I think that is what everyone is going to try to do, you know, on the back nine Sunday.

Being in one of the last groups going into Sunday really give yourself a chance and see what happens.

Q. Just kind of Jon Rahm, can you put in perspective his past year, how dominant it's been?

SEAMUS POWER: It's been amazing. There has been times it's just incredible. You see the stats and it was like nine tournaments in a row, whatever. I even lost track. It was just amazing.

Look, he's one of the top players in the world and it's an amazing that stretch of golf he was on earlier in the year. Like finishing last year and this year. It was amazing.

Then Rory had a stretch and now Scottie is in a stretch. It's an amazing standard said those three guys are setting, but what Jon has done is incredible.

Q. Anything in particular he's doing or way that he plays that stands out?

SEAMUS POWER: I haven't made enough with any of them. I probably played the with Scottie, but I just played Jon at The Open last summer for nine holes. It was just -- I think everything just looked really, really solid. I mean his driving was outstanding.

St. Andrews isn't the hardest driving course, but he was hitting his lines, not much curve on the ball, and the ball was coming off very solid.

I've played with Scottie the most and Scottie is a gorgeous player obviously. Hit some shots around the greens and with his wedges sometimes that really blow you away.

And Rory, I mean, I haven't played a lot with Rory but pretty obvious. That driver is just a weapon for him.

Him, same thing. They all have good short games, all do everything right. I mean, you're not going on stretches of golf like that if you don't do everything well. I think they have it down pretty nicely at the moment.

Q. I don't know how well you know Jon, but he was describing himself as a golf junkie. Is that something you've experienced in terms of talking the game with him?

SEAMUS POWER: Not particularly. I'm kind of -- like I love playing golf. I always really enjoyed it, but I kind of get away from it, too. I probably wouldn't be in the same boat, no.
