MASTERS TOURNAMENT

April 4, 2023

Sergio Garcia

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Playing with Jon today and Ollie, just talk about the day. How good is it to kind of -- all the anticipation leading up here to actually get out and play with those guys?

SERGIO GARCIA: Yeah, it's always fun to play with two good friends like Jon and Chema. Haven't seen them in a while. Obviously talked to them a little bit.

Yeah, it's always nice to kind of chat a little bit and walk together and kind of see the course.

Q. How long has it been since you've talked to Rahm?

SERGIO GARCIA: Not long. We obviously text and see how we're doing on our tours and stuff. Jose, a little bit longer, obviously. But we try to keep in touch.

Q. What do you think is the biggest adjustment coming from last week and doing the first three events of the season this year for you and then coming here? What's the biggest adjustment that you've got to get used to?

SERGIO GARCIA: I don't think -- obviously this is a major, so it's a little bit different without a doubt. I don't think there's much difference. At the end of the day, it's about hitting shots and trying to score low, the lowest you can score.

So that doesn't change. Fortunately for me, I've been able to come here for, I think this is 23 years or something like that. It's always fun to be back. We're going to try to give it the best we have.

Q. Now, you've answered questions about this before, but obviously the big night tonight, the dinner, who do you normally sit next to? Maybe what's one thing that you're looking forward to tonight?

SERGIO GARCIA: Well, I usually sit next to Jose, so I'll probably be sitting next to him again. Yeah, I'm just looking forward to seeing everyone gathering and having a nice dinner, enjoying and celebrating Scottie obviously for the great win he had last year. I'm sure it will be amazing.

Q. Is there any player that you hadn't seen in a while this week that you were cordial with and actually had a good conversation that you hadn't seen?

SERGIO GARCIA: All of them. Yeah, I had great conversations with many of them. And a lot of guys that I haven't seen.

So I could tell you 10, 15, 20 easily, but we're not going to spend that much time here. But everyone has been great.

Q. Cam said yesterday in his press conference, Cam Smith, that maybe some of the LIV guys might feel like they have something more to prove this week because some people think that you guys stink and all this stuff. Do you feel that way, that maybe you got a little bit more to prove from people who are kind of counting you guys out before you even get started?

SERGIO GARCIA: I did shower this morning so...

Obviously it was a little humid out there (laughter).

No, I think at the end of the day, we're all here, we're all trying to compete. We're going to give it our best. It doesn't matter if you're a PGA TOUR player or LIV Golf player. I think at the end of the day we're all going to give it our best shot, and we'll see what happens at the end of the week.

Q. One of his points was he thought it would be good for LIV if someone was not just contending, but won. Do you agree with that?

SERGIO GARCIA: Of course. If anybody does well it's good. It's as simple as that. There's no second thoughts for sure.

Q. I don't know if you're aware The Times reported that the arbitrator ruled against the LIV Tour.

SERGIO GARCIA: I haven't heard. I haven't been a part of it. I tried to stay away from all that.

Q. Do you have any fears with the Ryder Cup, not getting to play that? Have you kind of come to peace with all that has happened?

SERGIO GARCIA: I can only do what I can do, and that is to play the tournaments I can play, try to play them the best way possible, and then everything else is out of my hands.

So the decisions if we can get picked or will get picked or anything like that, it's not going to come down to me. It's going to come down to my game and if the captain, Luke, thinks that I'm good enough. We'll see.

Q. How is your game?

SERGIO GARCIA: The game feels good. I'm obviously working on some things. This week obviously is going to be a good test, like every major and every Masters is.

I like a lot some of the things I'm doing. It's just a matter of hopefully building some good momentum.
