DIO IMPLANT LA OPEN

March 30, 2023

Jodi Ewart Shadoff

Los Angeles, California, USA

Palos Verdes Golf Club

Quick Quotes

Q. All right, couple birdies, couple bogeys, but definitely to come out often top with 2-under, how you feeling after the first day here at PV?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, it was solid day today. Conditions were tougher. You know, rain this morning, so the golf course was a little softer today and the greens were not running as smooth as we had hoped for.

Overall pretty solid. I left a couple putts out there, but, yeah, pretty happy with my day.

Q. Definitely a different test than we've seen at other courses, definitely a challenge out here. When you were prepping for this course, what were some of the challenges that you were working on?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Really just focusing on short putts I think for the most part. And then the greens are soft, so just watching the spin coming into the greens in the practice rounds.

You know, it was just tough out there this morning. It was cold and wet, so it was a little bit different to the way we played practice rounds. Then obviously very different to the way we played in Phoenix.

So it was a little bit of an adjustment for today.

Q. When the weather cleared up, your back nine holes I think were probably a little bit easier for you.

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah.

Q. Take us through the last nine holes, especially the two birdies you had?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I had a really nice birdie on No. 2. It was very difficult pin location and I put it to maybe eight feet and holed a really nice putt with a lot of break on it, so that was nice.

And then I didn't hit the greatest tee shot off of No. 7. I hit a nice wedge shot in there to five or six feet and holed that putt.

So overall, you know, pretty solid. Hit my irons really well today, so it's good going into the weekend.

Q. More sunny skies, which is nice?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yep.

Q. What are you looking to work on as you head into tomorrow?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, just going to go out there and probably hit a couple drivers just to build my confidence. And then just, again, focusing on the greens. I think that's the toughest part about this golf course.

If you have a lot of confidence on the greens this week, you're probably going to play pretty good.

Q. I know it's a different part of California, but this is the first time coming back to Cali since the MediHEAL Championship?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, this course reminds me a lot of Saticoy, so I kind of like playing in LA. I've always played well around Wilshire and then Saticoy, so I like LA golf.

Q. Did you play in PV last year?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: I did, yeah.

Q. What were some of the things that you remember from last year that you think helped in preparation for this week?

JODI EWART SHADOFF: Yeah, I just think last week in Phoenix I didn't hit my driver too good, so I was really just focusing on getting my confidence back with the driver because I knew around here that I had to feel good about my tee shots.

So I really focused in on the last three days just trying to build that confidence, and then just building the confidence on the greens, because last week greens to this week are different.
