AUGUSTA NATIONAL WOMEN'S AMATEUR

March 30, 2023

Latanna Stone

Augusta, Georgia, USA

Quick Quotes

Q. Just talk about what you did to stay loose and stay ready during the fog delay? I know you were at the tee for a while and then the delay. Did you go back and hit some more?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, I was contemplating on going back after they said 8:20 or 8:30. When they said 9:00 restart I was like, okay, just going to go back and like rewarm up.

Q. Talk about your round.

LATANNA STONE: Feel like I played really good out there today. Last two holes just kind of unfortunate a little bit. Made two bogeys coming in, but I think it might be good enough total for two days, so we'll see.

Q. You'll be playing on Saturday but Rose is right now way out there. How do you try to get ready for Saturday when you could be ten strokes back trying to catch somebody?

LATANNA STONE: I think that I'm just going to go out there and have fun and just play golf on Saturday. So just enjoy the course.

Q. Is that how you approached it last year? Trying to do the same thing?

LATANNA STONE: I did, but also was trying to win last year, because it was pretty close.

Q. So you think that's different than this time because one person may be running away?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, I mean, anything can happen. It's Augusta National, so...

Q. What will you and Riley try to work on tomorrow when you're at Augusta National?

LATANNA STONE: I don't know. I got to talk to him after this. We'll see how the practice round goes.

Q. How big of a deal is it just to make the cut again? Obviously you're right there last year, but it becomes the situation where you still have to make the cut to get back to Augusta National. How much does that play in your mind the first two days?

LATANNA STONE: It's kind of like just getting there, right? You got to get there to get to the weekend. I think that playing steady golf, it works, so, I mean, just making it to the weekend.

Q. Can you talk about the support that you got last year after the final round?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah.

Q. What you heard from people.

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, I got a lot of letters written to me, which was nice. They were sent to my school and I got to read all of them. It was great.

Afterwards I felt like a big embrace when I was walking down. You can high five everyone, and I was trying to enjoy that and not just like be sad or anything.

So always be sad another time.

Q. How was the aftermath for you? How do you look back on it?

LATANNA STONE: It was okay. I mean, it's a growing moment, so it's okay.

Q. The first time when you got to play the practice round at Augusta, what was that like?

LATANNA STONE: It was really rushed actually because we had to come out and play three holes like really early in the morning and then go straight there on a bus and play. It was on Friday.

Q. Was it the experience that you wanted or did that take from the experience that you had to kind of rush out there and do that?

LATANNA STONE: I mean, I think the experience was Saturday, so like it was fine playing on Friday and then playing Saturday was a dream.

Q. Are you excited to have your team out here Saturday for the final round?

LATANNA STONE: Yes. I'm so looking forward to seeing all my teammates. Really excited. I just can't wait for them to watch and enjoy Augusta National.

Q. What did you do kind of in the aftermath of last year? I understand you did a little shopping. Could you take us through what that was like?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, I mean, I just went afterwards. They were closing in like 30 minutes, so I had 30 minutes to browse and I just started grabbing things off the shelves. My poor boyfriend had a whole pile of stuff in his hands.

Then they said five minutes until closing and I walked away with a lot of things, so it was very nice. Retail therapy.

Q. Was that the most you ever spent in one...

LATANNA STONE: Oh, I didn't pay for it. (Laughter.) Yeah, no, I didn't pay for it. I don't know how much that all was.

Q. Was this at Augusta?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, it was a nice gift from my boyfriend.

Q. What's the nicest thing you got from that?

LATANNA STONE: Well, I got this really cute little green bag that was way -- cost way too much for it to be like -- it's like this big, but it's Masters green, so it's worth it.

Q. It's like a little...

LATANNA STONE: Not even a purse. You could probably fit like a few pill bottles in there. I could use it as my medicine holder.

Q. Do you use it now still?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Q. So your boyfriend paid for all of it?

LATANNA STONE: Yes. I don't know how much it all was.

Q. What's his name?

LATANNA STONE: Cameron. Yeah, he's here somewhere. Sure can ask him.

Q. Going to be another shopping spree?

LATANNA STONE: Yeah, on him.

Q. Did he forget his wallet this year just in case?

LATANNA STONE: No, I wouldn't let him do that, wouldn't let him forget the wallet.
