Quick Quotes
Q. You're a seasoned veteran at this event. Can you just talk about what experience brings to the table?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, I would say at a course like Champions, the more you play it just the more comfortable you get. I remember my first year everything -- you're just in awe of the course, of the tournament.
Now everything you're just kind of used to. So I know the greens are really, really fast. I have a good idea. My speed control is good and pretty straightforward off the tee.
Yeah, definitely feels good to have experience.
Q. You've had a lot more reps coming into this year as opposed to last year.
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yes.
Q. Can you feel that in your game right now? Where are you compared to maybe last year?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, I'd definitely say I feel more comfortable. I play better the more tournaments I play, so like in the fall season my last two tournaments were my best finishes.
So it's nice that I've already played five tournaments this year and just know what I need to work on. I feel my shot pattern is narrower, but, yeah...
Q. Your mom typically has been on the bag.
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah.
Q. Can you tell us about your caddie situation?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, so my fiancée Charlie Doran is caddying for me. We're getting married June 24th, so coming up.
I asked him to caddie for me and my mom, she was actually happy. She's like, I can have the instructor badge since she is my coach, and then I don't need to haul the bag around.
But I'm excited. He caddie for me in the Women's Am 2021 at Westchester, and then he caddied for me at an Epson Tour event and I shot like 17-under that week.
Q. Wow.
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, he knows what he's doing. It's fun. He knows golf, so I don't need to teach him how to rake a bunker or anything.
Q. Does he have to take week off work this week?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, he does. It's funny, because his boss has been putting a lot of work on him this week. He's like, I told them I'm going to be on vacation this week.
Yeah, it's fun to experience this with him and I'm really excited. He's my biggest fan.
Q. What's his day job?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: He works for Bank of America. He's a corporate auditor.
Q. Did you meet at Wake?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Met at Wake in a writing class. I tell everyone it's a good thing he thought I was cute enough to talk to, because otherwise I wouldn't have thought that the man that I was going to marry was sitting in that classroom.
Q. Who's the better writer?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: He's a really good writer. I would say his vocabulary is better than mine, but I write more, so...
Q. What's his best caddie quality?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: I would say he doesn't react to my shots, which I like. I don't want to hit it in the bunker and hear, Ah, in the background. Like I hate that.
Q. Do you normally hear that?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: I hear other caddies do that. I just would not want that. I like that he doesn't react and he's really calm.
I don't know, and he's a big sports fan so just really confident in me. He thinks I can hit every shot, which is great, so then you get more confident in yourself.
Q. So what are your future plans beyond the marriage for golf?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Yeah, so Golf Channel hired me for three weeks in the summer doing broadcasting, on-course reporting. PGA Tour Live hired me for three weeks in the summer as well.
So that's what I'll be doing in the summer, and we'll see if I continue that.
Also then I'm writing for Global Golf Post, yeah, I for their women's column. Just started doing that.
Q. So no pro golf?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Nope.
Q. What are the three events for Golf Channel?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: Women's Open, Girl Junior, Women's Am.
Q. You know what it's like to be in contention down the stretch on Saturday at Augusta. How is it different than other tournaments in that position?
EMILA MIGLIACCIO: I would say being in contention is the same, and I'm definitely really grateful that I have that experience to fall back on.
It's not something where I'm, oh, my gosh I've never been in this spot; what do I do?
I would say Augusta is different because it's so surreal to be playing on this course. So just kind of managing your focus and just trying to be locked in like it's just another golf course. I think that's the hardest thing to do, because you're kind of looking around and just in awe of everything.
You're like, okay, I actually have to hit this shot close. I would say that's the challenge with Augusta.
