LPGA DRIVE ON CHAMPIONSHIP

March 26, 2023

Ally Ewing

Gold Canyon, Arizona, USA

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Ally Ewing. You had a solid finish to your week here at Superstition Mountain. Opened with a 71. What did you find the last three days that was maybe hitting a little different?

ALLY EWING: One, I haven't competed since Tournament of Champions, so kind of just knocking a little bit of the competitive rust off.

Yeah, just kind of needed to get into a groove and not be -- I guess less thinking my way around the golf course and just kind of play golf.

We did a good job of that. Obviously more so the last three days. But I think it's just kind of finding a rhythm more so than anything.

Q. Got off to a really hot start today. Four birdies in your first five, which is always fun to do. Just walk me through those first few holes.

ALLY EWING: Yeah, on 1 I think I made about 24-footer for birdie.

2, hit it to 12 feet. Had an eagle putt; two-putted for birdie.

Rolled like in another 20, 25-footer on 3.

Par'd 4.

Then I get to 5 and make I think it was 12- to 15-footer or something like that.

Yeah, just I was seeing a lot of positivity, running really good process in my putting. Always great to get off to a hot start like that. Kind of stalled out in the middle, but overall it's golf. Really happy with just four rounds I've put together considering I haven't played in kind of two months. Those two months were great for me, so...

Q. Speaking of that, saw you at Hilton. Had a great year last year. Got that win finally again. Obviously now consecutive winning seasons. What's your goals this year?

ALLY EWING: Yeah, I think I'm definitely hungry to take my game to the next level. I want to contend for major championships, represent the United States in Solheim Cup, and all around I just want to be a really consistent player.

I feel like I have the game to compete week in, week out, and just kind of finding that sweet spot of what helps me do that.

I think we started with some really good momentum this week, and hopefully we can just continue to build on that.

Q. What did you learn about how to be that consistent this week that you'll carry with you?

ALLY EWING: My caddie, Dan, and I were a great team this week. We've been really talking about the process. I'm such a process person. I don't like to run ahead with results.

So we gathered a lot of really good information and we stuck to our process. That's how we were defining our success at the end of the day. We can look on the leaderboard and see that the success was more than just process, but in terms of when we walked off the golf course each day, we said, okay, we did as good a job as we could at running a process. That yielded good results for us.

That's kind of how we operated this week, and hopefully helps us continue to build on that.
