LPGA DRIVE ON CHAMPIONSHIP

March 25, 2023

Moriya Jutanugarn

Gold Canyon, Arizona, USA

Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club

Quick Quotes

Q. Here with Moriya Jutanugarn. Hung tough. I know that was a tough finish. Still ground out a really solid round today. Had some good birdies out there. Made four in a five-hole stretch on the back nine. Tell me about that stretch you got on.

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: Well, it's actually fun to like get going and make some birdie a little bit, you know. It just like one of the day that I kind of like a little bit of like left and right and just have to try to find the middle.

Q. How were you able to make some of those birdies? I mean, one on the par-3, three on par-4s. I know some of the par-4s are playing a little shorter today. Did you see that out there today?

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: I think a lot of the par-4 seems to play a bit shorter this week, I think because the wind and dry out also, like the air is pretty light here.

Yeah, just some of the par-4 just like you had a wedge into the green so it's, you know, like give you more chances.

Q. You're short by no means as far as ball striking goes, but do you feel like it helps when you play a little bit of a firmer golf course, keep you up at the top of the leaderboard?

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: I think it's like good and bad. The green is always like really firm here as well, so it's hard to like trying to stop the ball or like when you need long irons into the green.

But also, like if you hit a good drive it seems to go a little bit farther. I think it's just depend of like bouncing and stuff.

So, yeah.

Q. I know again, with that finish, how do you give yourself grace in those moments and be proud that you ground out a couple of bogeys?

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: Yeah, just like first thing I have to take whatever. It's good enough, and you have to know that's human, it's happen.

And after that you just, you know, like you learn from the mistake hopefully and just try to focus on like what under my control and just keep doing it.

Q. Is that something you work on with Pia Nilsson and Lynn Marriott, your mental coaches?

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: Yeah, I think this week we talking about like what we want to do for this season pretty much, not just for this week. We always like plan for the future.

It just more like something I know what I have to do. Just like we need a little bit of tuning.

Q. And then finally, going to be in one of the last couple groups tomorrow. Obviously found some good things this week. What will you carry with you as you look ahead to tomorrow in contention?

MORIYA JUTANUGARN: You know, as long as I'm still in contention I'm pretty happy with that. I know it's not the finish I want, but it's still there, and like, you know, hopefully have a good day tomorrow and just like go out and have fun.
