Quick Quotes
Q. It's never easy to win these matches. Got in a little bit of trouble, got down in the match, and yet you ran on through with winning here. These holes down the stretch, you had three straight birdies.
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Yeah, it was frustrating today because I came out nice, I was hitting it good, I had a good warmup, I was putting nice, made some good putts early, and then something flew in my face on 6 and I hit like a quick duck hook which I've never hit a shot like that before. It was weird.
7 I hit a good shot that I just put in the wrong place, and I started making mental errors and starting to force things and I did a good job of staying patient and J.T. made a mistake on 15 that I capitalized and good birdies at 16 and 17 and I had a fantastic putt there that I thought was going in and happened to slide by the hole, but it was a good battle out there.
Q. Maybe didn't have your best this morning, but how did you find your way through?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: Too many mental errors is what I would say. I've done a great job over the years in this tournament of staying patient and not trying to force things. I got down, and J.T. is such a fantastic player and putter that he put the pressure on me today and I let it get the best of me, but I was able to finish strong and come out on top.
Q. You just seemed to hang around a lot on that back side. J.T. got 2-up on you. Where were you at mentally right there?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I was pretty frustrated. I felt like I had given away holes. He earned a few of them, but there was a couple in there where I gave them -- I hit it out of bounds on a par-5, made two bogeys, so that part was frustrating.
I just did a good job of staying patient, Teddy kept me in it mentally and we were able to make some birdies down the stretch and close out the match.
Q. Closing with birdies on 15, 16 and 17, he gave you one there at the end so you've got to feel lucky that you got there. What do you need to clean up going into the weekend?
SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: I think mentally just clean things up. I had a great warmup this morning and I had a few loose swings on the course, which was a little bit uncharacteristic for me, but putter is starting to feel nice, which is good.
I hit a fantastic putt on 18, just a little too much break, and just hoping to go out there and have a good match this afternoon.
