Quick Quotes
Q. Cam, a tough match there down the stretch. When you made the turn 3-up, what was your mindset going into the back nine?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think pretty much that everybody I've played so far has done some stuff on the back nine against me, so I was just ready to have to play all 18 holes.
He played great on the back. He outplayed me on the back. I missed a couple putts late that I hit really good putts. Obviously any one of those on 16, 17 could have gone in, but yeah, I was just ready to play them all. I think you have to be all the time.
Q. Is there something about the front nine that you've gotten off to such hot starts for most of your matches that you just seem to like?
CAMERON YOUNG: I don't know. Yeah, definitely I've gotten off to some nice starts. I think the back nine is a little bit funky just in a couple places. There's some shots that it's really hard to tell where the wind is.
I don't know, I've just been very comfortable on the front nine. I've played the back fine, too, but there has been something about it that I've just scored really well.
Q. How mentally and physically taxing was a day like today?
CAMERON YOUNG: It's definitely taxing, especially when the afternoon match is that difficult. I think -- I don't think I made a bogey today, and I was biting my nails trying to win my match in the afternoon. I think I was maybe 6-under or something.
I think it just shows you the quality of golf that's played out here and how hard it is to get through even just one day like today, never mind that today was our fifth match.
Q. Rory tomorrow morning; we asked him if he ever played with you before. He said he thinks you guys played a few holes at St Andrews.
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, we did.
Q. What do you make of the matchup and how excited are you to play him?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, I think he's forgetting the nine holes we played at the Pebble Beach U.S. Open in 2019, but that's fair enough. I was just out of college, so that's understandable. I'll forgive him for that one.
But yeah, I've played a total of probably 18 holes with him. I've been around him a little bit. Obviously one of the best players in the game, so I'm excited to go hopefully get off to one of those starts again tomorrow and see where it gets me.
Q. Is that maybe the key tomorrow against him is that start, or is there another thing that you're really focusing on?
CAMERON YOUNG: I think the start would be nice, but the golf course is just so gettable at any point. I think at any point you could make four or five in a row.
Whether or not you get off to that start you have to assume he's going to make four or five in a row or assume you can. I just think a lot can happen very quickly, and I think the key will really just be understanding that and knowing that at any point it can be your stretch of five holes and you can flip the match really fast.
Q. The tee shot on 11 was just incredible. Did you mean to hit it there?
CAMERON YOUNG: No, the shot of the day was the worst shot of the day. Yeah, I just duck hooked a 7-iron trying to hit it really low and I just shut the face down. Yeah, it was just awful, so I really got away with one there.
Q. In a way was it poetic justice that Kurt made that putt to tie you?
CAMERON YOUNG: Yeah, walking up on the green he asked if I would do good-good, and I said no, but it was a fair try because he deserved it a lot more than I did there, but you need some of those.
